Question SS dagger

Hi all, just wondering your opinions on this dagger? I don’t know a lot about this sort of item so any help and information would be great. If it ends up all being rubbish then so be it. Thanks

M42 “sand cammo” Hkp66

Sitting on the same shelf is an interesting M42 - lot number 34658, bought online from a seller who got it from a house clearance in the UK. ( Norfolk if I recall ) How it got there ( and it was very dusty when I unpacked it ) is a mystery as it is not an attractive piece for a trophy …… there was probably a story behind it - long forgotten now.:weep:

The sand in the field paint job did its job of breaking down reflections and I believe allows it to be called a "cammo" as much as any other..

The chinstrap is stamped C.Korn, Alzey, 1941 and the less common 5 digit lot number puts it late in 1942 I believe, so it could have been a bring back prize by a Tommie…..? especially with what looks like blood stain to the liner and with stitched repairs to the chinstrap means it was a real combat veteran.

Hope you like it?
Dan

Important! New Book – Polish Helmets 1915-1939

Hello guys and gals,

The authors have asked that I post announcement of this new bilingual publication scheduled to hit the bookstores in several months. This book will supersede the Polish-language only Kijak reference of several years back which, while certainly useful, provided only a general overview of helmets used by the Polish Armed Forces spanning a longer time frame (1917-2000).

Volume 1 is devoted to helmets from 1915-1939 and will cover each one in more depth with new information and supported with detailed photographs. 1000 copies will be printed, so it’s destined to be one of those reference books that might become difficult to find or pricey to acquire once initial stocks are sold - as any of you searching for some of the Sawicki or Zawistowski books released in the past ten years have found out.

Cheers,
Tony
