Dear gentlemen i I seek advice from the wise , can anyone help me out with pictures or a description of the smoke "candles"used on the early to mid tiger tanks i refer to the 6 pots mounted on the turret sides 3 a side not the mine launchers on the decking x5 . I have read about and seen the launchers on tiger 131 at bovington but no one seems to know what the actual munition looks like . I understand they were only used for a very short time due to the fact that the smoke could be drawn into the tank and disable the crew and also they were prone to small arms damage that could set them off accidently so they were either left empty by the crew or later the mounts were just cut off the turrets and a safer launcher was fitted that could be loaded and fired from inside the tank like a small torpedo tube powered by a hand held pistol that supplied the lifting power . the deck launchers fired a veriant of the standatd s mine explosive /shrapnel for close defence of the tank but the smokers were used for cover to aid in retreat or repositioning of the tank .any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated photos would be brilliant .Thanks in advance for any help you can offer cool militaria .
all the best. Rob
I bought found this about 10 years ago in a garage clearance in a box of stuff and general scrap and didn’t really think to question what it was other than German until a friend pointed out it’s possibly pre-war.
I gave £5 for the box and use the buckle on a non-original belt on a daily basis to this day. Could anyone say whether it’s a fake or original?
So my in-laws surprised me with this Canadian MkII CLC 1942 (1943 liner) made helmet the other day. The issue is that is has been painted black and I am almost positive that the paint is post war (I touched a spot with thinner and the black disappeared), so the question becomes should I remove the black paint to put it back to original paint or leave it as it is? What is peoples opinions on removing paint from these helmets? I know if this was blue and marked police I wouldn’t bother, or if it was post war MP or something like that I wouldn’t touch it but this one being black I am just unsure. Sorry if this question has been asked a million times.
Thanks for your time and thoughts.
