Japanese wooden ammo box, metal lining, what for?

Hi, I was given this box the other day. Wooden with metal lining, measures 165×498x203mm, japanese? writing on the lid and (characteristic?) Circular damage in one spot.

I think it is for some type of fuze, does anyone know?

Air ministry box 1939…. What for?

Was given this box the other day, measures 268×226x85mm, marked "AM, 1939"….

It looks like a 1st aid box, but they are always marked as such….. Anyone know what it was for?
