Hi Guys,

here we have an huge M18 - ET68. Ex black SS helmet with blue grey sprayed paint. Worn in the concentration camp Sachsenhausen near Berlin.

In the doom, the helmet have two white stamps. At the moment I have not yet fully deciphered the stamp.

?/?.SS-T.St.

1939 the helmet got the M31 liner and chin strap. The chin strap is a mix of civil and military parts.

The most interesting detail of the helmet is the stamp in the skirt.

Kelly Hicks showed a lightweight helmet on his website with the same details.

At the moment I have also the opinion, that the stamp stand for:
"Kdtr. K.L.S. 13." Kommendantur Konzentrationslager Sachsenhausen
That is a heavy history for an helmet.

Why the helmet was oversprayed with blue grey color? At the moment I have no idea ? All my knowledge about blue grey helmets you can find in the GH2 Forum. -> Blue grey helmets study

If you know more about helmets with a Kdtr. stamp please let me know. At the moment I know 3 helmet with the "Kdtr. K.L.S. 13." stamp (1. my one | 2. Jim`s helmet, 3. Kelly Hicks helmet and one with a "Kdtr. K.L.S. 15." stamp.

Kind regards
Basti

Caveat Emptor! Don’t assume a dealer is all knowing.

Good morning gents.

I am posting this here because I can’t see any other section in which it fits but I think it illustrates a point of which all collectors need reminding from time to time.

Just back from holiday I was browsing the web to get back into the collectors "mindset" when I found a website with an item listed in the political and police section of WWII Third Reich militaria and described thus;

Police Dog ID Tag

This rare dog tag was stamped from solid brass with a substantial curve and holes on either side so it could be affixed to the dog’s collar. It measures 2.25" x 1" inches (56mm x 28mm) with "Erster Deutscher Polizeihund" (First German Police Hound) across the top and "Verein (P.H.V.) Sitz Dulsburg" (Society (P.H.V.) Seat Dulsburg) across the bottom in raised text. The dog’s "Police Hound Number" "P.H.Nr. 3357" stamped into the center panel.

Polizei Hund Verein.tag.obv.jpg

Sadly, the description is quite misleading.

This is not a police dog ID tag but a membership tag for what was a kind of sports association and the title of the association should read;

Erster Deutscher Polizei-Hunde-Verein (Sitz: Duisburg)

ie. First German Police Dog Club (Duisburg) , Sitz does mean seat but in this context indicates the location and it is Duisburg not Dulsburg! To be really picky "hund" should, in this case be interpreted as dog rather than hound.

The tag therefore is not miltary nor is it police per se but relates to the club which has its membership concerned with police dogs.

It is of course German but it is definately not WWII or even Third Reich as the club only had this title from 1926 - 27. It continued with title variations and I think it may still exist today and there are many PHV in Germany. However, my point is that the dealer has (probably innocently) listed this incorrectly hence the title of this thread.

So, just because he is a dealer with a brightly coloured website one should still know what one is buying and not assume that dealer means expert (Expert; Ex = has been. Spurt = drip under pressure - sorry that only works in spoken English!!)

"Caveat Emptor"

Happy browsing!

Mark

Could someone help identify this hat?

Hey Gang,

My dad gave this to me today. He bought it (and a lot of other stuff) in 1970 from a former American GI who had married a German girl. The lady had a pic of herself and Hitler when she was a young girl giving him flowers. My dad tried to buy the pic, but the lady wouldn’t sell.

I know this is Luftwaffe, but could you give me the nomenclature for the cap? Could anyone guess at today’s market value? It’s not for sale, but for insurance purposes.

Thanks!

Unusual Cast Helmet

Thought I’d share this very unusual cast metal helmet. Insignia is cast into exterior. Likely civilian defense/ last ditch homeland defense navy helmet. A similar example was reported decades ago.

Question Were the USMC Pilot uniforms the same as the infantry/ground forces uniforms?

I recently went to an auction and purchased the ribbon bars, Captians shoulder bars, USMC collar insignia, and small Captains bars for the overseas cap from a USMC in WWII who was a pilot with the Navy. My question: Can I get any USMC tunic and put the bars, rank, etc onto the uniform, OR is the USMC Pilot uniform different from the ground troops uniforms (different color green, different buttons, etc)? Thanks in advance for any help! This guy had the Air Medal with star, Distinguished Flying Cross with star, Navy Presidential unit citation with star, and the other ‘regulars’ (victory, asiatic-pacific, etc). The only thing not in the lot was the WINGS!! I guess they kept those or they got lost through the years. 1001241

Japanese Cased Medal - Is this war related?

Greetings all,
I have found this interesting medal/medallion. Appears to be from the 1960’s??? I have not seen anything like it.
I thought there may be a military/veteran link as the star appears to be very similar to the one seen on these old parade hats.
Would love to know anything about it.
The very best regards cool militaria
