My U-Boat Clock

This is my Kieninger & Obergfell U-Boat clock.

When I received it, it wasn’t working.. so there was no way I was having that, so of it went to my "clocky friends".

So, after a good clean and some TLC, the problem was finally found.

A repair was made in the sixties and the part that was used ( a spring) was a similar British part. Not German.

So, a correct German spring was sent for and now the clock is ticking away like mad.

It’s as good as new.

The British spring part was useless, when it was lying flat, the clock worked..

When it was put upright, it stopped :(

It was a tiny pressure spring that wasn’t working, as it was a wrong replacement British part.

Only after numerous attempts, and a careful "clocky" persons eye, that finally, the offending pressure screw was identified.

A proper German pressure spring was the order of the day, and now it’s all systems go!

Badge “Odznaka Honorowa Naczelnego Dowodztwa W. P. (Szt. Gen.)”

Dear All,

would you please share your pictures of the mentioned badge? Both original pieces or copies, as well as documents related to the badge, would be highly appreciated.

Best regards,

US M1917 5th Division Flashed Brodie

Despite me saying "No more helmets in 2016"….I have now broken that vow 4x’s with still 3 months to go.

So….Here is my first WW1 US helmet. An M1917 with a 5th Division Flash.

Oilcloth is still soft. Chinstrap is broken but remaining parts are in good condition. No ink stampings on the Oilcloth liner but the leather band is marked "A" and "C" in pencil.

Helmet has the three holes for the face mask.

It is nice in that it is named, but I can not make out what the name is.

Shell is stamped ZB55. Does anyone know who the maker "B" was?

I’m new to WW1 helmets but have read that unit flashed helmets were generally done post war. It is obvious that this has received a coat of brown paint over the original paint. Any feedback/thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Here are the pics (a few are in direct sunlight). Double click for high resolution and expandable pictures!

What do you think? :)

Regards,

Michael

My 1st year in review

I just wanted to take some time to express my gratitude to the moderators, administrator, and members of this forum on this the 1st anniversary of my joining. Without you all I wouldn’t have the collection that I do nor the confidence to pursue it.
There are too many of you to list who have helped in the education I have received and continue to receive. From the guys I talk to on a regular basis down to the people who never knew I was learning from their purchases I thank you.

In one year I have learned not to buy things such as this…..

30.2 KB

But instead have purchased these
