Snider carbine 2nd-type sawback bayonet

Hi all
Heres a bayonet from my collection some of you may have not seen before and find interesting.
A Snider Carbine 2nd-type sawback sword bayonet, made specifically for the New Zealand order of Snider artillery carbines supplied by R.A.S.F Enfield.

These bayonets were a conversion of the 20 inch blade Pattern 1875 bayonet for the Martini Henry rifle, with the modifications being carried out in 1880-1881 by Enfield.

The conversion was expensive at the time, primarily as the pommel was replaced to bring the leaf spring onto the left hand side (to match the 1879 artillery sawback bayonet pattern).

Records indicate that only approximately 2100 were converted……. making this one of the world’s RAREST British Military issued bayonets.

This particular bayonet is marked with the WD mark and Enfield R.S.A.F inspection mark on the ricasso, along with 9/80 (the conversion date) on the ricasso and the low rack number 266 on the crosspiece (this would have matched the carbines serial number)

Enjoy
Jason

Black handle–HELP please

Hi guys,
I am going to an auction Saturday morning and one of the items that caught my
eye is this black handle 2nd pattern. This is the only photo available. I know
it’s not much to go on.

My concern is the black handle. Is this a total put together dagger or could it
be the real deal. I believe that the blade is marked "Tiger"

Is this thing worth bidding on?

Thanks for any and all help.
sincerely,
Greg

Part from a Revi C/12d aircraft sight

This is one of those artifacts I wish I could touch and see its history. This part was found on the site of an old airfield in Russia, and is a shroud from the lower section of a Revi C/12d weapon sight found on German WW2 fighters of the period. Could have been on a BF109, FW190, etc.

Rather than those you might see on a decommissioned aircraft now in the hands of a hobbyist, or still in their original boxes, this one stands a good chance of having flown any number of missions on the eastern front, and possibly hurtling to the ground as part of a flaming wreck shot down during the airfield defense, or bombed parked at the airfield in unheroic fashion. In any case, this unassuming piece of aluminum may not be much to look at, but was there to participate in some of the most intense aerial fighting of WW2. For that reason, I submit this for the historical archives of our forum.

Also pictured are a few freebies that came with it. I’m not sure what most of these labels would have been found on, but I suspect personal items and machinery at the same airfield.
