A rare Leica that is at once both Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe?

Included below is a pic, and a link to the listing on feeBay.

What boggles the mind, is not that there are hundreds of the more typical "Gold Luftwaffe Leica" for sale on eBay from good old mother Russia, at the modest price of $179, no, that isn’t the mind boggling part… It is that they actually sell a few, and to who? And why? Why would anyone want to buy something like this?

That’s what I’m trying to get to the bottom of here. Who actually buys these?

The casual non collector wouldn’t buy something like this if they were $29.

Re-enactors?

Collectors who don’t mind a little piece of fluff in their display to make it look a little bit more interesting?

Young film photographers who think it’s cool to parade around with a fake nazi era camera, just because Swastikas are so cool?

I mean they’re not usually passed off as being real, although when "from and antique store", one just hit over $500 on eBay and I wonder what the feedback is going to turn out like.

I suppose there probably are collectors out there green enough to fall for it, and luckily there is this forum to steer away from such garbage.

Anyway, if you’re an amateur photographer like myself, Leicas have been a lifelong source of fascination, as well as WWII. So it’s sad to see the two come together as the product of some cheap fakery… but as always "give the people what they want", without the demand there isn’t much need for supply.

Ju.52

Last week was the Jersey International Air Display. I am lucky enough to be able to help out at the airport and therefore also get to get up close to the aircraft if not actually in them. This year we had the 1936 Lufthansa JU.52 fly over to take part in the display. As it is my most favourite plane of all time I just had to go and have a looks. The pilot and crew were more than happy for me have a good look around and insisted I got into the cockpit and generally get to know the old girl. Once in the cockpit the pilot says he’s off to the pilots briefing, so help myself take as long as I like and shut the door when I’m finished. So like a cheshire cat I sat up front for quite some time. At the end of the week I even got invited to go for a fly in her….. fantastic for sure. Not too many people have done that in Jersey since 1945 and then they were German soldiers.
She has just been made a German Historic Monument, which means she will have a long and well looked after future.
That was a great experience indeed.

Question What have we got here

I’m a bit out of my depth when it comes to Japanese swords, the little knowledge I have is not nearly enough to be comfortable, however I picked this up the other day, it was bought locally, and was brought back from Burma in 1945. The binding on the handle is leather, it has a wooden pin keeping it on the tang. The blade is not marked or signed, which I understand is quite common. It does have 2 holes in the Tang It is NOT a factory blade, it is hand forged, however the blade is not in very good condition, it is hard to see the folds, but they are there, and it’s sharp. The scabbard is Leather bound over wood, the Tsuba is not elaborate by any means, quite plain in fact, so what is it? and how can you date them without being signed.

Any help or advice would be great thanks
