I’m considering this helmet and would like to know if the decal is legit. What’s your opinion of the bullet ding….can one tell if it is a wartime ding?

Not a huge find in the scheme of things but interesting to me. Found in a field looking across the Thames estuary, a bit battered but still enough markings on it for me to try to do a bit of beginners research. Dated 1942, 20mm and manufactured by RH. I believe this to be used by the Spitfire and made by the Raleigh cycle Co, Carlton, Nottingham. When found I admit looking skywards and thinking what the pilot was aiming at when fired.

What do I have here chaps? I recognised it from Pat’s recent thread on his DAF cap. Sorry for the rubbish pic, I’m at work so I only have a scanner. The detail is much better that this scan shows. Does not react under a UV cash-checker lamp, and passes the burn test too.

I just noticed this for sale. I usally pass all WK2 caps off as fake on ebay. But I am not sure about this one. I am interested to see what you guys think. I will not be getting this, but just a bit curious.

I think it is good because it has the correct age and wear?
But I was thinking why would there be so many moth holes where an eagle used to be?
