Need help! trench art made from shells, etc. Can anyone identify the shells used in this gong

Hi guys, just got a trench art dinner gong? Amazing piece. The base plate is japanese, about 40 cm across, its brass with numbers round the outside and japanese characters all over it, It is then mounted on a timber plinth, would love to know what that is off? The supports and the crossbar are brass. The gong is a large shell 17cm across with 2 smaller shells to hang it from the crossbar. The 2 smaller shells have U 4 3 on the bottom. The large shell has Japanese characters on the base and a cross where its been fired. It is also engraved with a natives head on 1 side of it as decoration.
I know it was brought back from New Guinea but thats about all i could find out. Any help as to dating, valueing the item and identifying what shells its made from, and specially the big brass base plate will be much appreciated.Attachment 307330Attachment 307331Attachment 307332Attachment 307333Attachment 307334Attachment 307335

Grouping of Captain Edwin Bogert

Hi All,
I thought I would share with you the latest grouping I acquired, that of Captain Edwin Bogert of the 112th Anti-Aircraft Artillery. I acquired this from a Edwin’s daughter, whom I sit on the board of a non-profit with.

Edwin enlisted in August, 1942 and served in the ETO, specifically in the Rhineland’s and Southern France. He continued his service after WWII in the reserves until 1951. I won’t go into too much detail regarding his service, as all of it is spelled out in the paperwork provided below (no need to send away for his service records!).

There is not much remaining of his gear other than his ribbon bars, a couple of SSI’s, his duffle bag and some rank insignia.

However, there are a lot of liberated German items, which were probably obtained either during Edwin’s time securing supplies for construction of a POW camp, or during his post-war occupation duty.

In addition, there is a detailed photo album with 100+ photos from his time in Europe. I’m not in possession of this yet as his daughter wanted to pull out a couple photos of her father to keep, however will have it next week. I’ll be sure to update this thread once in hand.

In any case, I hope you enjoy!

First up is his various paperwork including discharge, OCS certificate and other forms that detail his service.

Dog tag help

I had this dog tag given to me by an older lady in my church 50’s ish who said she knew it was somehow WW2 related and since I liked that stuff I ought to have it. Is it a fake or an original? Thanks

Wehrpaß & Fragebogen: small group but perfectly formed!

Hi

A small document group to the same man, one Hermann Koch, that I recently acquired. Here we have his Wehrpaß & Military Government of Germany Fragebogen.

I was rather amused by the "travel or residence abroad" section on the Fragebogen as it seems like they are asking about his holiday destinations! That is until you read "Denmark 1940, France 1940, Russia 1941".

If anyone could help translate some of the Wehrpaß pages I’d be very grateful as not good at finding my way around these.

Enjoy

1st Division American M1917 Helmet

Here is my Big Red One M1917 helmet. I really don’t know much about it, and wanted to see if anybody knew more about these than me. I took a picture of the heat stamp which is "ZC193" to give more info(The picture on top has the heat stamp circled as well). It obviously has no liner, as you can tell from the pictures. If anybody could put a value on it, that would be much appreciated. Please note, I am not selling it, I just want to see how much it’s worth ;)

Question Ground Rohm ?? SA Dagger EICHORN

Attachment 307221Attachment 307222Attachment 307223Attachment 307224Attachment 307225Attachment 307226I was searching the forum and saw a ground Rohm dagger Ade has in his collection. Mine also has the number “2″ on the underside of the cross-guard and the Wf stamp. My makers mark, however, is not next to the handle like Ade’s and mine has the letters “C.E.” under the squirrel (or whatever animal that is). Could mine also be a ground Rohm, or just a later production dagger? Are the ones with the number stamped on the underside of the guard more valuable? Just thought it was cool to see one almost exactly like mine with the same markings and all. :)

Need help! M1 Clone Identification

Hi lads, I just won an auction for M1 (£8). One to actually wear, as my Belgian M1 is rather old and I’d feel bad if anything happened to it. Can anyone help me identify where this helmet is from:

Attachment 307214

Quote from listing:
“Outer is steel and painted in drab green with fabric chin strap. Has a circular stamp mark on the inside but unreadable and two painted marks 11 front and back on the inside? Also has either a letter B or 13 in white on centre of front and also has a serial number stamped into the rim. The liner is blue / grey plastic with a leather sweat band and green webbing style inner. Stamped SW70 (size?) on inside. Has a crack / split for approx 10 cm from rim at left temple running diagonally backwards which has been selotaped over at some point. Not sure of the nationality but it could be Belgian or Argentinean war relic brought back from the Falklands War 1982.”

Can anyone shed any light? I think the liner is Belgian, but no idea on age. I’m clueless on the shell. I’ll post detailed pictures once it arrives (week or two?).

Thanks!
Nitram

PS - Yes, I know the pictures are small. Sorry, best I can do at the moment.
