Katyn victims

I would like to post some things belonging to Katyn victims.
I will be posting more as time allows.
First one is CPT Lucjan Gawronski. Cpt Gawronski was one of the first victims identified at Katyn mass grave site by PCK (Polish Red Cross). He was number 69 on PCK list. In the movie "Katyn" there is a scene with boys selling newspapers in Krakow with the PCK list being published and on the loudspeakers they are also announcing names: they call Cpt Gawronski.
He was a legionare, wounded in Polish russian war, won a KW and later served in KOP. (Border protection units).

deschler skull timeline question

hey fellas,

just trying to educate myself in deschler skulls. i collect p.38’s but im just getting into collectiing tk’s, particularly deschler ones. ( in my opinion, they’re the most beautiful!)

ive been having a tough time finding info on the net about the construction timeline of these skulls.

im aware the cupal and tombak metals suggest early war pieces, but what about zinc? or ones that were constructed of completely aluminum? i also read that later war ones did not even have makers mark in the back. also, the prongs in the back should indicate the year they were made too right?

can anyone help? does any member have detailed knowledge of what materials were used during what period of the war?

sorry to bombard you guys with so many questions, but can anyone recommend me a good book to educate myself on eagle and tk variations? would micahel d. beavers book on ss cloth headgear a good starting place?

thanks in advance fellas.

Side Hat - what do you think?

Gentlemen

I came across this side hat recently. What do you think of it?

It is of very poor/cheap manufacture with threads coming loose along all of the hems. There is no stamp or mark inside except the size - 6 7/8. Also, as you can see the badge is on the side. The bottom prong is broken so the badge has been sewn on as indicated by the arrows. The buttons are white metal and made in Paris. They have a makers name Perfect??????? (can’t make out the rest) in a belt and buckle design.

Any ideas as to the authenticity of this cap and units that wore it? All comments gratefully received and appreciated.

Many thanks for your help

James
