Pawn Shop sword…Need an opinion.

Hi, once again I come to this forum with hat in hand searching for an expert opinion on a ww2 relic. This sword was shown to me today in a pawn shop, not sure if its the real deal, but I think it is. The pics I’m posting are from my phone so they are not the best quality. The ricasa has a stamp on it which reads from top to bottom….original, squirriel, soligen, eickhorn. I think it’s the real deal, but would feel better if it were confirmed by the members of this board. Once again, thanks in advance for your time and responses.

Need help! Regarding advice on Australian Customs!

Hello guys!

I’m looking for some information from some of my fellow collectors in Australia!

I have recently purchased an ASW43 K89 Bayonet and it is on it’s way from the U.S!

I spoke to customs before the transaction went ahead and the woman that I spoke to said that BAYONETS are not restricted imports. I thought this was great news and went ahead with the purchase.

I then went on to research on some other forums and decided to email a customs officer asking if the fact that the bayonet has a double edge would be a problem.

I recieved an email back stating that double edged bayonets are restricted and it would be impounded.

I called again and my call was answered by another customs officer. He informed me that both single and double edged BAYONETS are not restricted as bayonets are exempt from the ‘double edged rule’, he said that as long as it was a bayonet, it could be imported with a double edge. He double checked with another officer and he also confirmed this as true.

I am now left wondering if I will have any issues with this.. Any Australian members here that can share experience with double edged bayonets and customs?

Thanks guys for your help!

Dec 16. 1945
Dear Mom:
Just a few lines tonight to let you know I’m O.K. and hope you are well at home. The way it looks, I’m going to be away from home another Christmas. For a while I had hopes of being home but it’s impossible now.
Well the lid that they were expecting to blow off here in China has finally started. Last night the Communists tried to take the Walled city, that’s about a mile and a half from here, at 11 o’clock and they fought most of the night. I guess they will keep it up now until they get the city. I still can’t see why they don’t get us out of here. There are only 60 of us here and last night there were 3,000 Communists so you can see that we won’t have much of a chance if they decide that they want this railroad bridge here.
They stopped liberty again today so I guess we won’t be able to get any more liberty while we are here and the way they talk we are going to be here for quite some time yet.
I only have 49 points now. When I was back in the States it became official that we only rated one star in our ribbon and we didn’t get the Unit Citation for Bougainville. When we first got back to the States they told us we could wear the citation and three stars as we were supposed to get them but something happened that changed it all.
Well that’s about all I can think of for now, will write again soon. I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Love to all,
Elvin

SS “Overcoat” Armband

These are one of the puzzlements of SS cloth collecting. They were described in an older reference book as an overcoat armband. There is no photographic or physical evidence to validate this claim. The early pieces such as the one pictured have the typical cloth RZM label. Later, and more plentiful, examples bear the typical paper SS RZM label. Whatever they are, the SS had control over them. I have thought that these were handed out to auxillary individuals under the auspicous of the SS. Comments are welcome as I would like to solve this puzzlement.Attachment 230037Attachment 230038
