I just received this Webley & Scott Mk.1N pistol, after about 10 years of looking for one! Built in 1914 for the Royal Navy, it’s chambered in the semi-rimmed .455 Auto round. It’s a very neat, very unique pistol - the mainspring is actually a massive V spring under the grip, which as far as I know is unique to Webley & Scott autos. It’s a big gun - I pictured it next to British-contract Colt 1911 (also in .455 Auto), but the picture didn’t really bring out the sheer bulk of the thing.
Recently ran upon this beautiful Mauser m98. Belongs to a friend who was told by his father that his uncle brought it back at the end of WW2. However it has been sporterized. I have had no luck tracing any of the markings or history of the weapon. Barrell has been reparked, receiver has been polished and reblued and has "Standard Model" stamped on the left side and "Mauser" stamped on the rop of the receiver where the codes and date would usually appear. However on the side of the receiver are several proofs B with Crown, G with Crown, U with crown and N with crown. Serial number B66851. Any help with identifying if WW1 or WW2, date of mfg and possibly when it would have been converted from military to a sporter.
This EK1 was also given to me by a vet. I cannot find any marks on it. Is there any particular place I should look? Can one ID the maker based on its looks? As always, any info is much appreciated.
