Fake and real

I have just completely stripped a original M42, it has been mucked with in the past, was a polish reissue and has sort of been a project shell of mine to muck around with!

Just for ref here is what a M42 looks like stripped bare.

Also I am showing a repro rivet thats has been on this helmet for 7 years. Look at the rust and aeging in that time. Thsi helmet stayed inside all its life, but if you didnt know, they look original.

Last pic is a repro M35 shell (stripped) I bought for shits and giggles a few years back. Notice the makers mark which immediatly alerts the knowledgeable it is a modern copy! But whos to say someone wouldnt try to pass it off as a Mountain troop special issue!!!

M1917 helmet marking legit?

I’m dying to get a hold of a nice complete M1917 with markings on it. But I’m too green to trust myself with verifying logos and markings.

To me it looks far too bright and it appears that some of the red has been scratched off (intentionally?) and at the top of the yellow marking a chip has come off revealing the color of the helmet underneath.

Need help! Luftwaffe Sommerbluse and continental shoulder boards/

Friends, I have this Luftwaffe Artillery Bluse but it did not have any shoulder boards. I have continental boards but I’m not sure if they were mixed with the Summer clothing. Original Luftwaffe shoulder boards are getting tough to locate these days. Is mixing OK? NH

The original size markings are still visible inside but hard to read. It carries an Rb number on the bandage pocket and came with an original 1944 bandage.

Austro Hungarian Wound Medals (VERWUNDETENMEDAILLE) Complete Set.

Hi Chaps, I thought I’d post my recently completed full set of Austro Hungarian Wound Medals with all the different ribbons. From no stripe, for the sick/invalids, to 5 stripes for 5+ combat wounds. The medal is made in the poor quality "Kriegsmetall"; but many are dated 1918 & maker marked. Some of the makers were : -
"GW 18"
"W & A 1918" ( Winter & Adler 1918 )
"HMA 1918" (Heeresmaterialamt)

Here’s a link for further info: -

Cheers,

Richard.

DJ Buckle & Belt - who could be the Maker ?

Hi Everyone,
Bought four buckles & belts this week, a HJ piece I’ve shown, this is the second one - a Third Reich generalist collector I know, has decided to concentrate on medals & helmets and is selling off the equipment side of his collection, amongst other things I bought this from him. I normally try to buy pieces with a makers mark in this case it has no mark, but it was the only buckle of this type he had. I’m confident buckle & belt are matching period pieces just curious who the maker could be. I’ve looked through the maker’s profile thread, this buckle design isn’t covered there. Any suggestions welcome.
Regards
Alec

A Very Interesting Lot of Buckles

Hi, all. Just thought I would share this lot of buckles (disregard the eagles for now.) To my mind and tastes, the SA and Imperial buckles are quite interesting and I believe both are quite rare buckles.

The SA is, I believe, a brass, washed roundel counterpart to the DRGM (Deutsches Reich Gebrauchsmuster/German Reich Registered Design) "steel back" buckle that David shows in this very excellent thread from a while back:

http://warrelics.eu/forum/belt-buckl…l-backs-17275/

It would appear to my eyes the very same otherwise undocumented design of eagle and swastika as well as a new variation. There are some excellent points and questions raised in the thread David started and perhaps this one can revisit and build upon it towards further discussion. A very interesting buckle indeed and one that I am very excited about!

Secondly, I believe the Imperial Prussian might be a rare transitional buckle circa 1915. It would seem to me to be a steel box with a "stand out" pewter roundel. DUJAILAH (Richard) shows a very similar buckle on P.10 of the Imperial German Buckles thread (which in itself and its entirety an excellent reference) and has given some great information. If I am correct, then as Richard has stated this transitional type 2-piece steel buckle came between the move from the 2-piece brass to all steel buckles. Apparently pewter as a soft metal was found to be easily damaged.

Lastly, the Luftwaffe buckle is nice, although not of the most interest to me at the moment. I am not sure about authenticity, although I think it is probably good. Perhaps someone can give a thumbs up or down on this one and possibly identify the maker.

Perhaps some of the Imperial gentlemen will see this and comment as well. Of course, all comments, opinions and thoughts are most welcome and greatly appreciated! :)

Best to you all,
Adam

Iron Crosses

Hi guys, I have a few questions about EKII’s.

I have always loved these as well as German helmets. I want to have a really extensive helmet and cross collection. Some of you have posted your cross collections on here and it really amazes me.

I know a decent amount about iron crosses, i.e. proper construction, details to look for, rarities, etc. I have a few helmets so far but only one EKII, so I have decided to try and get every single maker mark possible. Here are my requests/questions:

1. Could someone post an approximate order of maker marked crosses from most common to least common? It would be nice in case I ever came across a few crosses for the same price and I had to choose one based on how long it will be before I see another again. This might be a little tedious but it would be an AMAZING reference. If there is already one somewhere that I don’t know about, please let me know.

2. I have skimmed the internet for good reference books but there doesn’t seem to be a solid clean cut iron cross reference book like there are with steel helmets. I know about the wehrmacht-awards website and it’s really nice but I would like to try and find a really good, thick book that I can use. Do any of you know of a good one?

3. Can someone run through the list of the rarities, i.e. the Übergrosse, Schinckel, etc. and explain exactly what these all are? I have only vague ideas of what they are but it would be cool if someone could just explain the differences in a nutshell.

4. What is the difference between a more orange ribbon as opposed to the red ones? Is the orange/white/black set-up a feature of earlier crosses?

5. Lastly, just out of curiosity, what is your favorite maker? I want to look at a lot of pretty crosses on this thread so I can pick a favorite. cool militaria

I have attached a few pictures of my cross, a 106 Bruder Schneider A.G., Wien, just in case anyone was interested in seeing it. Please feel free to post whatever pictures you wish.

At least my first one is one of the harder to find variants! :)

Regards,
Mo
