German Dog Tags, to clean or not?

I'm new to this hobby and was wondering about the 'protocol' of whether to clean or not to clean.
2 of the below dogtags are zinc and as you can see they are definately showing their age which some may argue is a good thing. Should I try to clean them, even a little bit? If so, what is the best method? I figure a light clean might entail just a scrub with a toothbrush and warm soapy water followed by a squirt of WD40. If I was to go further what method could I use?

The alloy dogtag is a different story as I know aluminium can be polished to a mirror shine if need be, this one was ground dug from Stalingrad and as the lettering is quite legible I think it best to keep it in an 'as found' condition. Again if I was to give it a small 'tidy up' what is the best method without ruining the aged look of the piece?

Thanks in advance for any tips or comments.

British Cap badges - Newbie needs assistance!

Hello all,

Been lurking for a little while and simply cannot believe some of the things that can be dug out of the ground after all these years! Anyway, an older friend of mine found this lot by metal detector, in various places round the UK in the 70s and 80s. He’s not a "silver surfer" and so he’s asked me to try and identify these badges prior to sale - can anyone help???

Mods, if this is in the wrong place, please move.

1. George VI era Military Police cap badge?
2. Royal Warwickshire Regiment
3. ??
4. Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME)
5. Royal Army Ordnance Corps (RAOC)
6. Royal Fusiliers cap badge
7. ??
8. Royal Artillery
9. Cornwall shoulder title
10. Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders
11. An RAF cap badge, obviously. I think the crown indicated pre Elizabeth II?
12. A belt buckle?

Any assistance you can give to identification or values will be much appreciated…or indeed if you want to buy them? ;)

Cheers
Steve

Need help! New to Erkennungsmarken - real or fake?

Hi, this is my first post and I hope it won't be my last as I have always been interested in military relics and the stories they tell and this site sure looks to have a great bunch of like minded people.

Anyway, I was bored at work the other week and ended up browsing a British Militaria dealer website and decided to purchase a couple of Erkennungmarken. They got me interested in putting together a display of some sort so I ended up buying a 3rd tag from a digger in Volgograd so i'm pretty sure of the authenticity of that piece.

The first tag is one of the dealer's buy and i'm a little suspicious of this one as there seems to be some 'halo' effect around some of the lettering especially on the bottom half. There appears to be suitable oxidation in the actual lettering itself which I think tells me the lettering isn't 'new' in any way. There is a big patch of lighter colour material on the bottom half so maybe it isn't a result of new strikes on an old blank but rather is just an effect of this old material? The tag is quite heavy so I assume it is zinc? The unit seems to be legitimate "Heavy Tank Hunter Detachment 519" which fought (among others) in the Battle of the Bulge and the Hurtgen Forest.
The roll number seems very high at 15165. Is this a legitimate tag?

This second tag is also from the dealer purchase and I'm more confident of the legitimacy of this one but some wiser words from experts would be appreciated.
I think this is the 2nd Battery, 1st Stab, Artillery Replacement Detachment, 268 Regiment (Motorised). The unit seems to be legitimate although I'm finding Lexicon to be quite confusing when it comes to finding the Division that the Regiment was attached too. Again the tag is quite heavy so i'm assuming Zinc. What is the consensus here?
Attachment 143994

Third and final is the tag I bought with some other bits and pieces from a digger who works around Volgograd. This tag is Aluminium and I think translates to 2nd Company, Bridge Construction, 522 Regiment which was part of 297 Infantry Division which Lexicon reports as destroyed at Stalingrad. This confirms to me the legitimacy of this item unless others have any comments?

I appreciate any and all comments as the last thing I want is to be proudly mounting and displaying fake relics of any sort.

Article: The Afrikakorps cuff title

H.G. long & Co FS style fighting knife

This seems to be a commemorative or replica of some sort. Anyone know how old it is? I read somewhere maybe manufactured during the 90's?

Is this common or rare?

Need help! What figures mean in MAJLEPSZA BRON?

Like the subject lines says. For those who might have a copy of this book I need help figuring out what some figures mean. Can translate what the column titles say but what do the names under Przynaleznosc do grupy mean? They seem to refer to colors and group/echelons but I can't figure out their meaning from the book's first chapters. Same problem with the figures in the column Termin mobilizacji? I'm guessing in this column they are some form of mobilization sequence order. Have attached scans of the pages I am concerned with. What page might I find the key to these charts?

Thanks in advance
Regards
Chris.............
