Highly Suspect “painted” SA Buckles

Attached are images of what I consider to be two highly suspect and still, very interesting SA buckles. There is the common feature of a painted obverse and also, both buckles are in extremely good condition and yet, have pin shrouds and claws which are not similarly so.

I am not at the moment immediately dismissing the buckles as post 1945, although they concern myself somewhat.

As always, comments would be most welcome.

Regards,

David

1943 PBY 5A Catalina “The Ghost of Dago Lake”

This has been on exhibit at the Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum, it went down in 1947 flying as part of the 10th Rescue Squadron Stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base. The Pilot reported engine failures and it made an emergency landing at Dago Lake in the Alaskan Peninsula. The crew had no injuries, the plane had some minor hull damage. They tried to repair the engines, however they had issues transporting the engine to the lake, and it was lost in the lake. They also tried to ferry it back, but that also didn’t work, and ended up damaging some Noorduyn Norseman aircraft. The government finally sold the plane for a grand totally of $58.00 in 1948, most of the components were then sold for parts to Alaska Coastal Ellis Airlines. It then sat there until 1984 when it finally was returned to Anchorage, it was carried by a US Army CH-54 Skycrane helicopter. There have been discussion on repairing the restoring the PBY, but the price is very steep!!! It is estimated to cost $5,000,000, personally I like it just the way it is :) I love this plane, PBY’s did thousands of dangerous and risky mission during world war two, which resulted in many fine serviceman and planes. They are very respected very much so in Alaska, having served in the Aleutian war and rescue mission. I went to the museum the other day and decided I would post her. Here she is:

Interesting POW Ship in a Bottle

Hi Guys... just thought that you might be interested to see this fairly rare example of a WW2 era ship in a bottle, flying both an Italian flag and a swastika. According to a very well known American collector and authority on SIBs, this was most certainly made by an Italian POW... it has 2 names inside the bottle... the maker 'A.Pedeazoli' (written on the tiniest piece of paper and attached to the inside of the bottom of the bottle), and the name 'Lotto' (possibly the ship's name, also written on a piece of paper and attached inside the neck). The bottle itself is triangular, rather slim and about 12 inches in length. It has a glass and cork stopper and has written in English on the underside 'This bottle must not be used as a food container'. As you can see, the ship has a lot of fine rigging and is sailing into, or out of, a harbor, with a small yacht along side....

Need help! SS Armband?

Hi everyone, I know this is asking a lot but I need help identifying an armband without a picture. I don't have a camera and have come across what appears to be an authentic nazi armband, though other than that I am clueless. It is much like this armband: File:SS-Armband.svg - Wikimedia Commons
but only has one white stripe which comes out from the middle of the white circle and travels the entire circumference of the armband. The circle is also not anywhere near a perfect circle and is relatively ovoid.

It has a stamp like this one on the back: http://www.buyit-sellit.com/ebay01/auc00521/84194-1.jpg
but the words are different and I can't quite make out the letters as they are quite faded.

Can anyone give me some information as to what type of armband this is and what group would have used it? I would be grateful for any information, and am looking to sell if it is worth anything.

Need help! New member, Swiss mountain boots?

Hi there all, New to the group as of today. My thing is WWII German Gebirgsjager related stuff. As a New Zealander we have a direct connection with these units via the battle of Crete, Italy etc. Not having enough spare kidneys to sell I recently purchased what I am sure are indeed a pair of Swiss mountain boots as a collection filler in place of a real pair of kidney swappers.

Question I have is, does anyone know if these are military boots or civillian and from what time period. Haven’t received yet but just curious, can’t provide marking pics yet. Payed $80US for em, nice boots. Cheers guys & gals. :)
