Don’t laugh but I bought this helmet about 18 yrs. ago, it was my first. I think the shell is real but everything else is redone. It was spray painted black and I picked it up pretty cheap. I am attempting to remove the black. I started on the inside skirt with pure acetone. As you can see from the pic there appears green and brown paint underneath. The problem I am having is removing the black spray paint, it is a bear, this small area is the result of about 10 hrs. work. The only thing that I can think of is that it is not oil or latex paint (possibly acrylic?). As you can tell from the pics I am not worried about ruining the finish (no sign of any decals under the paint). I would like to try to bring out the original finish if its still there which I think it is. Anyone have any ideas???? BTW does anyone have any idea about the "liner". Thanks, John
What do you guys think? Please voice your opinion.
1. New or original (WWII era paint or repaint)?
2. Has the liner been redone?
3. Who made the chinstrap?
4. Any other opinions would be great.
Bob
Here are some photos of my latest M42 SS Relic helmet from the 11th SS Panzer Grenadier Divison Nordland cool militaria
I have found soviet general's cap badge used during 1940 - 1950. I believe this one is 1947 issue. If anybody is interested in than I would swap for soviet medal or order as I don't collect cap badges. Take a look on pictures.
The Royal Nepalese army fought at Imphal and Kohima in India, but did they wear British helmets or the Gurkha style hat. I cannot find any photos of them . thanks Ranjit.
Does anyone know if the Venezuelans issued the Adrian helmet in the 1930s/WW2? I have been informed by Adrian J English the author of “Armed forces of Latin America” , that the Adrians were worn, but i haven’t been able to find any documented proof or photos. regards Ranjit.
