70 Years Since Churchill’s Famous ‘Few’ Speech

This morning, the BBC here in England have been replaying a large part of the wartime Prime Minister’s iconic words to Parliament.

In August 1940 the Battle of Britain was well underway and who knows what might have happened had the outcome been different.

Here’s a selction of pictures from those desperate few months. The one of Churchill smiling in a Dover air raid shelter is a particular favourite (as is the blackout wardens cartoon).

More from the BBC coverage here

Koppelschloss Collection Display/Storage: Examples, Ideas & Opinions

Hi, all. As my koppelschloss collection has been growing steadily I have been thinking more about how to best display and store my pieces. As such, I'm really interested in hearing about any methods or getting suggestions on types/brands, etc. of display/storage cases or solutions.

I know that some collections are so vast that a cataloging system of some sort is probably necessary, however as my collection is smaller (for now!) I would personally like to display all my buckles while storing them at the same time. Currently I have them all lying in a dark drawer lined with soft cloth, but I'd like a nice display case that would also be proper for long-term storage (with a couple silica gel packets put in for moisture control.)

I have recently been looking into 2 inch deep (a measurement specifically recommended for buckles) glass top display cases with foam linings that are supposed to keep pieces in place by the pressure from the glass lid when closed. I'm a bit concerned this might harm the obverse of a buckle over time, though.

If anyone has any thoughts on any of this or some ideas to share it would be greatly appreciated. Additionally, I thought this could be a nice opportunity for members to "showcase" (by whatever kind of method used) some of their buckle collections in layout or spread-out fashion as one might see at a show. This would just be cool to see and would also be a help to myself and others who are curious about this topic. :)

Thanks and best to you all,
Adam

Need Help..Bullet Shell

Hey guys,I found this old case somewhere and need an ID.It`s about as long as my extended middle finger,my little finger just about fits in the hole in the end. It`s kind of a brassy color with writing on the end that I can`t read,I would take a picture of it but I have misplaced it and the batteries are dead on my cheap camera. So can you tell me what it is,from which country it`s from, and how much it`s worth? I am eagerly awaiting your replies, which I will probably doubt anyway....Zwerge. :D

Rollie’s Belt (Picture heavy)

This belt was given to me by a friend of an RCAF pilot nicknamed "Rollie" after Rollie passed away.

I was told Rollie’s spitfire was shot down somewhere and he was forced to bail out. After landing, he was picked up by french partisans, and fought with them for a time before he returned home to Britain. He didn’t have anything to hold up his pants, so he "acquired" it for himself. By the time he had made his way home, his boots has worn all the way through and his feet were in terrible condition. he spent several months recovering before returning to the war.

The man that gave me the belt said it was found in a box in the back of the basement by Roland’s wife while she was clearing out some of his things. She also found a hidden P.08 Luger, but was afraid to keep it and handed it over to the police. I don’t believe that anyone ever knew that Rollie had kept a Luger until after his death.

Here is his belt:

He was a very thin man - those holes you see most predominantly in the last two photos are holes he added himself.
