RAF Other Ranks issue shirts

Hi Guys, these are now harder to find items. Like many WW2 uniforms, these just got used up to destruction with post war civvy use. As I had these out for inspection, I though that I would take some pics and upload them here.

As you can see, the shirts are a pull over style with a separate collar which was held in place with collar studs. The shirts themselves have a "salt and pepper" two tone weave. Note the Air Ministry marks of the crown and "AM" to the neck. Also note the huge difference to the colours of the collars. Some of these were private purchase. Many have been used by multiple owners with a variety of names and serial numbers inked onto them. By having a separate collar, this could be changed each day to save washing the complete shirt.

The following two shirts along with six collars were used by my friends Dad in WW2. He was actually part of a mobile cinema unit. Paul very kindly gave me them cool militaria

Cheers, Ade.

Need help! Info about this picture

Hi all,

I’m new to this forum. Found some old photos of my grandfather and want to know as much as possible about this photo.

I can’t ask my grandfather about it, because he died when I was a young boy. He never talked much about WWII, but I’m very interested in his history.

So please, any information you can get from this photo would help me alot.

What I can read on the backside of the photo it says "Auf der Krim im Mai 1943". Is that right ?

Thanks in advance

Martin

Question Need input on Army Leather Overcoat before purchasing

Hey everyone. Last time I was browsing for TR memorabilia I ran into an old seller "friend" of mine who has sold me things from Luft buckles, banners, Mother Crosses etc which have all turned out to be authentic. I did, however; purchase an army buckle which turned out to be fake once and when I pointed it out to him later he gave me a full refund.

Ok enough background info... My question pertains to 2 Army leather overcoats he has. I don't know much about uniforms, I tend to stick to buckles myself. As of now I have no pics of said coats but I was wondering what in particular I should photograph to post on here to get a thumbs up or down. From memory all I remember is them having no insignia whatsoever on them and they weighed about 7-8 lbs without anything in them (maybe more). I know that isn't helpful but once I get a chance to see him again I'll make sure to take pics. O yea asking price for them was 500 each.

unusual m42

hello everyone. today i came across an unusual m42. It was stamped with Q66 but it had riveted airvents instead of stamped airvents:shok_yikes: is this possible? i passed it up but if it turns out to be good i can always go back to the shop and buy it. The liner and paint looked good to me but i noticed the airvent and they were definantly riveted and it had a flared edge. could this be a post war modification or something completley different. all help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Fake Alert! Fake 93rd Aero Squadron pins being offered

Caution: There are two World War I era, 93rd Aero Squadron pins currently being offered on a well known internet auction website by two different vendors. You can see both pins below. They look similar in construction but after examining them closely you can tell they are not identical.

The important thing to know about these two bad boys is that BOTH are fakes!

Caveat emptor!
