SS Flag any help please?

I have a chance to go and look at this flag i know the pictures are not close ups, but it gives the general idea of the flag and it is size 27X19. wondering if anyone could give me good advice on what to look for with this flag such as stiching, thread count etc, what materials would have been used to make this flag etc. thanks for any help in this matter for this will be my first up close look at an actual SS item real or fake. John

Worn maker’s marks… any ideas?

Hi Guys... I've been trying to match these worn maker's marks by comparing them to maker's marks on other buckles, but seeing as there are so many to look through, I was wondering is someone recognizes them just by looking at these photos? Many thanks for your time... cheers... Hansi

So my friend doesn’t believe me….

A friend of mine in Germany just picked this SS cap up at auction and wanted to know if I was interested in trading for it. I told him I thought it was a new reproduction and I think he might have been offended as he is not a collector of this sort of thing. So in fairness to him I wanted to post pictures of his hat here for you to comment on, reproduction or no? My question is any part of it real at all? In other words is the skull good? Any and all comments would be most welcome. He also wanted an opinion on value as it is but I don't have an answer for that, perhaps for a re-enactor? Of course if the skull would be good I'm guessing that would be worth something but I'm not holding my breath. Here are the pics....

Starting my collection

Hello everyone,

I have just joined this forum today but have been viewing it for a few months. I would first like to say how great this forum is, and would like to thank the moderators and Ade for all of the brilliant contributions to this forum and in keeping everything in order.

Now iam 14, but i started taking up interest in this subject since before i was 10. I have been doing lots of reading and research and i have never been bored of the subject. Problem is, my knowledge exceeds my collection, which contains only a few items passed down from my ancestors.

Because i have studied my friends and family friends’ collections for a while now, i thought that it was time that i get started, and i thought this would be a good place to start.:)

I have long been interested in german militaria ( who isn’t? :D) and also a little canadian militaria, from ww2. So i have come here to start collecting, and i will ask that if there are some items amongst your collections that you believe are good stepping stones to a collection( aka dont have to be rare or expensive), and you want to sell them, Then iam here! They can be rusty or shiny, big or small, but as long as you think they are good for a new collector, then you’ve got some possible interest here:) You can send me a PM or just reply to this thread, whatever suits you!

Thanks very much for your time, and for accepting me into your community!

Thanks again,
Dolan

Japanese Canteen

Hi everyone,

Picked this up at a flea market this morning. I normally don’t collect Japanese items, but this was just a beautiful canteen, I couldn’t resist it, plus the price was right. There are Japanese characters on the body of the canteen, so I’m guessing the original owner may have put his name on it? I don’t read Japanese, so I have no idea. By the condition, I’m guessing it was a souvenir that came home in a duffle bag. The asking price was $75, which I thought was a fair price considering it’s condition. Perhaps I paid more than I should have, but if I could only have one good Japanese canteen, it was going to be this one.

It’s going in the rest of my Burma collection…….think $75 was a good price?

Cheers!

British WW2 Bayonet Collection

Hi everyone,

I thought I share a few pics of my British WW2 bayonet collection. Nothing too exotic here save for the cruciform spike bayo and the No. 7. Surprisingly, you can still find some of the more difficult to find spike bayonets in common areas like surplus shops and gun shops. I’ve had these in my collection for quite a while now and enjoy collecting the variations of the spike and blade bayonets. Luckily, many of these can still be had for not much money, but I noticed that every year, they seem to go up in price like anything else.

From left to right is the No. 4 Mk 1 "cruciform" bayonet, No. 4 Mk 2 bayonet, No. 4 Mk 2* bayo, No. 4 Mk 2* with steel scabbard, No. 4 Mk 3 with plastic scabbard, (lower row) No. 7 Mk 1 and No. 9, Mk1. The No. 9 bayo is actually post WW2, but was designed for the No. 4 Enfield.

Some of the scabbards are actually rarer than the bayos themselves. The all steel tube scabbard for the Mk2* is rather difficult to find as is the plastic ones. If you run across these in your travels, grab them while you can!

Cheers!

SS Winter camo remnant M40 ET

It is an M40 ET 64 lot number 842 single decal SS with a textbook well toned ET canted decal you see on these M40 ET's from time to time.

The winter whitewash is in the recessed areas of the paint, so was well worn prior to whitewashing it. Then some sort of solvent was used to remove the whitewash and the solvent probably was not washed off after leaving tell tale marks on the paint below. Inside the 1940 dated linerband is dated 1940 with an unmarked chinstrap and whitewash remains on the skirt save wear marks of the chinstrap and where the soldier would have grabbed the helmet to remove and adjust it by the front bill. Around the base of the skirt there is more yellowing but this can be seen closely on the whitewash as time ages it and slowly turns it yellow. Much white wash can be seen in the recessed areas where the solvent didnt get into. There also appears to be a name which was rubbed off.

Here are some exterior shots and the interior.
