German M1916 helmet shell

This helmet arrived through the post today. I spotted it on Milweb last week, and the seller was asking for offers with the following statement... 'No fantastic offer refused.' So I sent him an e-mail asking if he would accept a 'fantastic' offer of £50.

The helmet is in absolutely superb condition and retains most of it's original finish. There is no pitting on it's surface at all, and it also came with it's original chinstrap. The shell size is Q66 and batch code is E26. Only one of the original rivets remain. The chinstrap appears to have an original stitched-repair, or perhaps it has been shortened by the owner. It is a good while since I have seen an original shell in this condition.

While at the Preston Arms Fair on the 22nd August, I met that well known tight-fisted collector known as Scrooge. I was telling him about it, and he said there was a rough M16 shell on one of the stands for over £100, so I think I did rather well really.

My antique show finds

I picked up a fixed bail. It has had a hard life but the price was right. I also got around 200 german photos. A Hawaii dollar and some Hitler stamps a 50 cal. bullet. It was a good weekend. I spent all day Sunday putting the photos in a album . If anybody would like to see more photos or better shots just ask ...? The best part was that the wife bought it all for my B-day. along with some great Ref. books on daggers ,buckles ,and flying helmets. Gary

He Who Was Known By The Color Of His Tights?

The early story's are obsessed by his clothing. He &
his men had an outerwear described in tales as a kind
of striped bright wrap the same color as his tights. He
had headgear, mantles, kirtles, coats, breeches, shirts,
six different colors of cloth & in one tale pretends to be
a draper so he can sell the King 123 feet of cloth.

What kind of ammo did the steel german helmets protect the soldiers from?

I was just wondering about it. Also, would an helmet like that, a Stahlhelm (that's what it's called), would it stop a modern bullet: i am totally ignorant on the subject, so i know that things haven't changed that much but not enough to make WWII bullets less lethal than the ones fired by modern fire arms, so would it save lives in street crime and stuff

Another screwed up eBay auction…

The sad thing is some moron will probably buy this set, thinking that they are getting a great deal.

I can buy, and assemble the complete listing for under 1000.00, may be i should just start putting this kind of stuff on eBay, and get rich this way…

A buy it now of $ 5999.00, this is some crazy shit….
