What to look for on a battlefield

I’m going to spend a month in Holland. Most of my time will be spent within the area of Market Garden, and as this is my main interest, I’m planning on spending a fair amount of time walking around the battle area and surrounding areas as well.
I’m fairly inexperienced at this and metal detectors are outlawed in the Netherlands, so my question is what should I look for, what sort of tell tale signs am I likely to see and where should I start my rummaging?
Some of the areas that I’m going to visit are in woodland, and one is the site of a German anti aircraft position. This position is fairly undisturbed since the 1950’s. Did the Germans build their flack positions to a particular formula or were they randomly built? Does anyone have any pictures of anti aircraft defence positions that I could have a look at?
Thanks in advance, Pete.

Heligoland Explosion 1946

I watched a programme last night, in it they talked about how the British Navy destroyed the last remaining German defence systems on the island with the largest non-nuclear explosion the world has seen. They did this in 1946. Truly awesome footage. Have a watch if you have a minute, here is the link

British modified grid…

Please guys…..!

For days,i’m desperately trying to transform into google coordinates,ww2 english coordinates…
I have absolutely no problem with US ones.Always good results when I spot combat zones to my friends French diggers…
Yours,i’m everytime failing !
No sites to explain me where i’m wrong! And i’m sad cause i found a wonderful war diary full of coordinates, describing the battle in and aroundLingevres with the 50th Division in June 44.
The problem is hard to explain with my bad English:my reference grid is not the good one, altough I ‘m using the one adopted for this area of France by all the Allied armies:French Lambert Zone 1.
The geo coordinates found in this Diary, once traduced in google vocabulary, drop me in the center of Brittany…on a June the 14th 1944…Impossible,isn’t it…
If you could send me a link where i could find explanations, you would be gentlemen!
Many thanks!!

Saturno’s German letters & postcards

Hi Guys... I am posting a few German letters and postcards that Saturno mailed to me today to translate. He tried to post them onto the forum himself but the files were too big, so I have reduced the size of them and I am now posting them for you all to see. Saturno told me that he has about 30 of these, so lots of help is needed for the translations please... I have only had time to take a quick look and they look very interesting... so if German speaking members are sitting at home with nothing to do but play with their bayonets (ha ha ha)... please start translating! Thanks a lot to Saturno for these... I'm sure that he will be posting the rest very soon... Cheers Hansi

Prospective Sun Wheel SA Buckle

Hey, guys. I was recently shown this buckle and was wondering if anyone had thoughts on it. Going for $100, which seems okay. The back is a little "salty" and the front a bit dark, but I do think the roundel has some very nice detailing, especially on the eagle’s breast.

Just curious as far as construction… How common is the attachment of the roundel by 3 solder points? Most SA’s I have come across thus far are only attached by two.

Of course, any opinions or comments are greatly valued!

Best,
Adam
