would like to hear opinions on this piece of head gear,,,thanks,<RObert
I recently purchased this metal pennant that was dug at
Stalingrad. A friend of mine goes there every summer and
digs. He got this pennant from one of his friends who digs.
I believe it is a battalion marker to denote the battalion
HQ (maybe??). It is marked 733, which I believe stands
for the 733 Heavy Artillery Battalion which was destroyed
at Stalingrad. This battalion was attached to the 24th Panzer
Div in Oct. of 1942.
It measures about 15 1/2 inches wide and is red on the
top and bottom with black center portion. The front side
is still readable and the back side is all surface rust.
Is there anyway that I can clean the rust from the
pennant safely?? Or, maybe so I can "improve" the
readability of the front side? Also, I would like to keep
it from rusting anymore than it already is.
Tks,
Bob
I continue to show you, someone cross of my little collection. (before or after somebody tell me...... "stoop Massimo you broke my bxlls with your cross" :D :D)
This one is made by Widmann - Frankfurt am Main, and is knowable for tipical pin back.
We find the same caracteristic also on other product made by Widmann(exemple Infanterie Sturmabzeichen e WB).
This type is little bit more rare than the screwback version, and is bought on Stuttgart Fair; I saw one or two exemplares marked on pin "19", unfortunately the core is damaged.
Thanks for your attention.;)
