Volkischer beobachter

Hi, I posted this initially in the wrong place, sorry. I have a copy of Volkischer beobachter with the title between two static swastikas as opposed to the later publications bearing the NSDAP eagle and swastika. It's dated 1923 abd was published months before hitler went to prison in Landsdorf. Anyone and idea on value? Cheers, Roland,

Imperial army website

Hi Guys. I posted this but it didn’t go through, so here goes a second time. Came across a great website that lists every unit of the Imperial Forces, even the marines, giving details of regimental history, commanding officers, where they were stationed, uniform information and lots more. The only thing is it’s in German. URL is

.30-06 British Home Guard dummy

Hi All,
This one turned up today, from my ‘travelling salesman’, with a .50 cal and a 105mm Abbott round. It took a bit of research to find out what about this .30-06. It is a ‘FA’ Frankford Arsenal, U.S. supplied the case, made into a Dummy by the British Home Guard.
Any thoughts on this case would be very helpfull.
Regards to all, Simon.

British/ East African issue slouch hat?

I recently aquired 2 of these hats that have been in storage for many years. Made by Vero Everitt and unissued they look very similar to Aussie slouch hats but they have just holes as air vents instead of the metal eyelets usually seen. Could they be East or South African issue hats? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Question Soviet Black Sea fleet objects

In the winter of 1990 I met a few Russian sailors in the harbour of Amsterdam. For a few Dutch Guilders I bought a plastic bag full of objects from the Soviet navy from one of them. In 1990 Soviet uniforms were quit rare in the west. In the plastic bag I found a uniform jacket, a navy visor cap, a “Beskozirka” summer naval peakless cap, a Soviet navy sailor belt and a belt of the Russian merchant navy.
The Soviet navy objects are still in my collection today but in spite of that I do not know that much from it. In particular the uniform jacket is still a mystery. I have the idea that the Russian sailor just put a few navy objects together in the plastic bag. I do not think that all objects have belonged to one person. Who can tell me more about the Soviet navy objects?

Picture01; The uniform jacket. The jacket has no stamps inside. The officer shoulder boards (picture02) are 1988 dated. The jacket has 4 army buttons and 1 navy button (picture03) ???!!
The jacket is wearing on the left breast pocket a badge for extended service in the navy. On the right breast pocket a badge of the Soviet Russian Kara class cruiser “Kerch” (picture04). As far as I know this cruiser is still active in the Russian Black Sea fleet. On both sleeves the uniform jacket has ranks/decorations. What kind of ranks/decoations they are I do not know. Maybe somebody can tell me? The dummy is also wearing a summer visor cap of the Soviet navy.
Picture05; “Beskozirka” summer naval peakless cap of the Soviet Black Sea fleet (Tschernomorski flot). What about the black/orange text band on the cap? I have also seen Black Sea fleet peakless caps with a black text ribbon.
Picture06; On the left a belt of the Russian merchant navy and right a Soviet navy sailor belt, 1988 dated.

Greek ww2 manual and firing tables

Hi all!

I would like to share some manuals printed in Cairo for the Greek armed forces in exile, by the Regulations' Office of the General HQ, in 1943 and 1944. These are official translations of the British "Booby Traps and Tank Traps - Field Engineering Pamphlets No. 9 - 1941 - Amendments No. 1, 2, 3" and "Range Tables 0,303 Inch. Vickers Machine Gun 1939", for 0.303 type VII and VIIIz ammo. The first one was printed in 1000 and the second in 2000 copies.

These must have been more than enough for the size of the armed forces at the time, but I don't know how many of these survived to the present day. During my service time, orders from the GHQ would come about the destruction of old manuals. We would look for the copies stored by the unit and burn them. Last ones I burnt were from the 60s ("excellent" cold war stuff, about the defence against communist propaganda in the military), so I guess that the ones from the 40s were burnt during the 80s.

Something I found funny was the correction seen on the last pic. It's still done this way, 60 years later, orders come with pre-printed corrections and a soldier has to cut the bits and stick them on place!

Back to the manuals, it is interesting how the Greek army adopted the British tactics along with the uniforms and equipment and the fact that these were printed under the direction of GHQ, M.E. shows that there must have been some effort on homogenization among the Allied troops.

I decided not to post any of the illustrations of the first manual online, since I am not sure it would be a good idea. Both copies have metric units conversion tables in their last pages. These conversions must have been a real pain in the field!

Hope you 'll find these interesting!

Regards, Giorgos

eBay Police

Dear collectors. I am sure your all familiar with the "eBay police" notcool this morning I had a request from someone asking to see more photos of what I was offering. They disclosed an email address, I do not believe them to be genuine. However, since sending more photos of an item, my listing has been removed. Suspicious?? Yes!! I did not show anything offensive in my listing.

Ebays rules for this stuff are so contradictory. They allow stamps and coins on the grounds that they were "officially produced by the state". Hmmm so are medals and badges of all countries too I’m guessing.

Either way I think it important that the addresses of these people be made public, so that others can safeguard their eBay sales.
