Your favourite item……

Here’s a chance to post your favourite medal or combat award.
We all have items in our collections that are particular favourites so let’s see them. It doesn’t have to be the biggest, most expensive or flash, just the piece that you like the most, the piece that brings a smile to your face - for whatever reason.
So, post your single most favourite item and tell us why!

I’ll kick off with mine, a humble EK2. It’s an unmarked K&Q which has had the ribbon turned into a ladies style buttonhole mount with a silver monogram attached to it. It’s my favourite because of the unknown story behind it. I look at it and wonder who mounted it this way and why? A wife or mother whose son or husband had been killed and they wanted to wear his EK to remember him by perhaps? Is it the fallen soldier’s initials adorning the bow?
I’ll never know but it always makes me wonder.

These are my latest finds, I do have some more to show later :D does anyone have any idea what they are and if they are fake or not? I have a feeling that the piece I believe is a helmet plate might be fake, however it wouldnt be the first time I've been wrong, and certainly not the last :o Sorry for the bad pictures.

un beau pour les british legion

Dear friends hello

Here is the shop window, that I realized I even.
I furnished him(it) with miscellaneous relics, which I took(brought) out in search(excavation) on the sector of the Dunkerque.
This shop window will be offered to the representative of the war veterans britanique, in fine May on the occasion of the remembrances of seventy years of the operation dynamo.

I remèrçie the association the thistle (who(which) I am member), to have financed me the materials which my building permit this shop window, to be able to emphasize these various relics.

chers amis bonjour

30mmx165 Honeywell Experimental Durable Dummy Cartridge.

This interesting cartridge purchased at Malvern Military Convention in March this year was a most welcome find Its a US 30mmx165 honeywell manufactured durable dumy cartridge-as used in the 30mm Philco Ford rival to the GAU-8/A Avenger cannon. The weapon lost out in the competition to the General Electric GAU-/8A due to numerous technical problems mainly associated with the ammunition and the Philco-Ford 30mm gun never got past the experimental stages. These Durable Dummy rounds were used in the actual weapon cycling tests where cartridge rigidity was important. The projectile is a genuine Target Practice type with broad polyurethane driving band and case is aluminium material. There is a steel rod which runs from the primer pocket and screws into the projectile base to prevent it from being pushed back into the case under repeated use. In total about a 100,000 rounds were produced by the time the project was cancelled and quite a few were retained as souvenirs afterwards. You dont see these that often in the UK and price of £65.00 is steep but was worth it as i had never expected to get one of these.

Rare Chinese 75mm Shell Case Carboot Find!

Found this real little gem of an item at our local car-boot a few weeks ago. When i picked it up i guessed it was either Chinese or maybe Jap and quite old possibly WW1 era. The seller wanted £10.00 and wouldnt budge as he said it was unusual. Fair enough i gave him a tenner and when home took it down to the local Chinese Take-Away and they identified the info on the headstamping as Chinese. They told me it was manufactured in Shanghai in 1910 which is what the markings translate to. So mystery solved there on the origin of this piece. Its a 75mm ’stub’ shell casing and this type of Chinese shell case like anything Chinese ordnance related is very scarce indeed and worth quite bit more than a tenner. This just goes to show that the local car-boot is allways worth a visit as you never know what you might come across. Regards, Tim.
