afrika corps buckles/web gear

I have seen brownish buckles marked as "Afrika Corps" buckles, and the same with web belting, canteens, etc.

Was it true that all/most buckles useed in Africa were painted other than the european feldgrau? Likewise, were all european buckles painted feld-grau without any other colors used? Was web gear used in other fronts, such as russia?

I just wonder since I have noot seen an order saying brownish were for Africa, and I suspect that the German army was strapped enough to not worry too much about common relatively small sized objects like buckles. Or am I way off base?

Need help! U-Boat Bade Marked “53″ and 25 Year Faithful Service Cross: Authentic Pieces?

Hi, guys. I saw these two pieces for sale online and was curious what some of you might think about their authenticity. I'm skeptical of the U-Boat badge as it looks somewhat different than I a verified original (by Juncker) that I compared it to. Specifically, the breast of the eagle is different and the back clasp does not have a wider bar like the original. On the reverse it is marked "53" The 2nd faithful service cross looks good compared to the pictures I have in my Lumsden book and one that I saw online. Apparently the picture quality is bad as this is the 25 year silver medal and it has come out looking gold. I saw this 2nd piece for $40 and thought it'd be a good buy if original. I'm also curious if anyone would and/or knows how to safely clean a ribbon as this one has some sticker residue on the front of it.

Thanks for any thoughts on these two pieces.

Adam

Need help! NSDAP Pin and SS Membership Stick Pin

Hi, all. I have wanted to purchase an authentic NSDAP and SS membership pin but have run into many fakes and fantasy items. I saw these two pieces for sale recently and was wondering what you all thought about them. The NSDAP pin looks good to me, but for some reason I have almost always been wrong about these and I guess I am just not sure what to look for. As for the 2nd SS stick pin, Ade told me in a previous thread that the only real SS membership pin-type piece is, if I remember correctly, in the form of a stick pin. Is this SS piece authentic and what he may have been referring to?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Best,
Adam

Is there a method to apply something to the gas mask to save the rubber from future crackings?
