Any ideas what, when and where this is? I picked it up at a gun show yesterday. He had 3 more but I figured I'd get just the one. The guy threw in a hand full of Mosin (7.62x54r)stripper clips. It's leather with canvas sides on the pouches. There are no markings at all on it. It also has the two brass clips. The rifle is one of the dogs I picked up in a trade. It's there for comparison. Thanks,Ron
Hello guys,
I'll post some military items I've found in the Spanish Civil War battlefields, in south Catalonia (Batalla del Ebro), the last battle of this war. There is no too much stuff, but if you go on walking trough this battlefield, you always find something.
I've never been there with metal detector, because I think that we have to preserve this place for a future planifications of battlefield archaelogy, that's the reason why I'm studying History in the University of Barcelona, because here in Spain anybody has done anything about battlefield archaeology.
I think that we have to promote this kind of archaeology in Spain, and with this thread I want to divulge this problem.
Regards.
Hi all
I can't believe the luck I am having at the carboot just recently. I normally get 3 decent finds in a year but I am already on 4 finds and the season has only just started !! :D :D
A nice mix today but also slightly frustrating.
About 3 years ago I bought a book from an antique fair called 'The Sixth year of the War in pictures'. A lovely old book published so close to the war that it was still full of the old British propaganda. I have kept the book safe and hoped one day to find the other five to go with it.
Walking along the carboot, scanning for WW2 stuff like I always do, a familiar sight caught my eye. The same red leather bound cover as the book I bought 3 years ago....... and he had all six !!!!
Excitedly I asked him how much the books were, to be told '50p each mate'. I nearly fell over and went to pick up the five volumes I was missing. BUT WAIT !!! HE HAD TWO 'Third year of the war' !!!!! So I ended up with the first, third, fourth and fifth years to go with the one I already had. Now I am missing the second year ! DAMMIT !
Still. A good find at £2 for all 4.
Three aisles up a familiar looking box caught my eye and sure enough.....a modern ammo tin, circa 1980. I was mildly interested but had no intention of buying it. The guy saw me and said 'Like that kind of thing do you ? Got another one in the boot bigger than that one just couldn't be bothered to lift it down'...... :shok_yikes: :shok_yikes: :shok_yikes: :shok_yikes: :shok_yikes: I asked If I could take a look. There in the back of his car was a much bigger ammo box, metal with familiar paint. The top was very dirty but I could just make out the '1945' on the lid. I asked him how much. 'I just want rid of it to be honest. Give me a couple of quid'. :shok_yikes: :shok_yikes: :shok_yikes: :shok_yikes: Not wanting to miss out on the box I only haggled a little........and paid my £1.50 and struggled back to the car.
Now, all I need is someone to save me the time and effort of trawling through the web trying to determine what it used to carry. Pictures below show the tin and insides, and the stamp on top AFTER I had given it a blast with the pressure washer and a good scrub with a brillo pad :D :D
So, £3.50 spent.
Not bad.
Might have to take this up as a profession :D :D :D
Hope you like them

I have spent alot of time walking the footpaths of my local ww2 airfield in the hope of finding something interesting for my collection. Up until now i have found absoloutley nothing. Then today i noticed that the farmer had ploughed a small piece of land that i believe has not been touched since the airfield was de-commisioned. After only a few seconds i spotted this just 5 meters from the foot path.
Hello all,
I just joined the forum and thought I would contribute one of the rarer images from my extensive collection of WWI photos. I hope you enjoy! If anyone can pinpoint this Russian shock battalion officer's unit, I'd appreciate the help. There is nothing written on the reverse, and it isn't a commercial or press photo.
Regards,
Pat

Heres just a few of the many gems ive amassed as part of my 1991 Gulf War collection. What we have here is an identity card taken from an Iraqi prisoner of war by British Soldier. A rather sad item is the red pvc bound diary found on a dead young Iraqi soldier by a member of the 2nd Royal Scots Battlegroup after the ceasefire. By all accounts he was a very ordinary young man and has a brother probably still living in Iraq, ive had this fully translated and its an interesting if sad document. The blue excercise book was found inside an abandonned T-55 on the Basra Road. It is all handwritten and is a kind of battle manual detailing everything from building fox holes to warnings about the American threat such as the A10 and Apache AH64. This i hope to get printed in English some day as its a unique one off thing really. Enjoy! Tim.
