Helmet in a cellar - where’s it from ?

Hello.

My work colleague found this helmet when he moved into a house near Stockport, England. I bought it from him, as I am a History teacher but neither of us have a clue about it’s origin. I wonder if anyone could help. It seems as if it has seen better days.

Thanks for your time & expertise.

Question Folding shovel covers

First off, if this is the wrong place for a question like this please move it accordingly - but where are all the original covers?? Did the Norwegians make there own when they reissued WW2 supplies? or the Dutch - if so why? was it because of the presence of the waffenamt stamp?? Whats so henious about a chunk of animal hide - or pressed cardboard anyway?

It just seems to me to be so disproportionate the amount of shovels that turn up minus the cover ( relative to other German kit )
and all we who own one can do about it is look at those HORRID attempts at copies ....grrrr!

Sorry, I just hate that gap in my collection.....

Wartime v Postwar Souval EK2.

Here are a few pointers to help identify a pre May 1945 Souval EK2 from a postwar Souval EK2 stemming from Farradin's thread here: http://warrelics.eu/forum/orders-dec.../my-ek2-18130/
I have highlighted the most common identfying features. This is not the definitive guide, just a quick reference which includes the most easy to remember points.

1. - Distinctive outer corners, known as 'birds foot' due to the resemblance to the three toes found on a birds foot!
2. - Very rounded inner corners next to the swastika.
3. - Thicker beading on the postwar example compared to the wartime cross
4. - Die flaw on the top of the 12 o'clock arm linking three beads together
5. - Wartime made Souvals didn't have the jump ring or suspension ring attached to the rear of the frame. They were attached on the front side only.

If other members can add to the list, please do!

Great Grandfather : G.C. ( or C.C. ) Rowles .
The only thing I know is that he was awarded the Defence Medal ( WW2 ) as I have that in Packet of issue .
He could of served in the Boar War / WW 1 as well .

The only thing that I know is that he possibly served in WW 1 & WW 2 . ( In ww2 maybe as Home Guard ) .

Thanks .
