I was reading that the golden age of collecting germam helmets was up to about the 70s .Then slowly but surely the fakes started coming. As you know now there is an avalance of fakes some good, and some easily regognised.one thing the fakes have done is that when you get a genuine wartime worn helmet you tend to treasure it more.Im confident that all my german helmets where once worn by a german soldier in battle,as i got most of them before faking exploded, and relics arent as much faked.RECENTLY I HAVE SEEN NEW COLLECTORS BEING SAVED FROM BUYING A BAD ONE SIMPLY BY PUTTING A PIC UP ON THE SITE WHICH IS A GREAT SERVICE TO THEM,being able to call on the exspertese of the guys on the forum.which is vital more than ever .
On the site of blue gray relics he has two Fallschirmjager helmets one with a bit of liner. Its helmets like these that i have bought over the years that my gut instinct told me that these are genuine battlefield relics, and untampered with, and i would be happy buying with out handling them first.unlike the luft chicken wire helmet on ebay at thE moment for over 600uk£S which a lot of the guys feel has been tampered with ,and is not exactly what it says it is..Even i was impressed with the helmet at first, but its one i would like to see in the metal before money passed.on thinking about it further surely the wire would have been in worse condition as this helmet shell is in very poor condition and the luft decal is virtually worn away with wear?DO THE GUYS AGREE WITH MY GUT FEELING ABOUT THE TWO Fallschirmjager RELICS AND WOULD THEY BE CONFIDENT IN THEM WITHOUT SEEING THEM IN THE METAL FIRST/PS i would have to shout at the end /sorry!
Is there any knowledge on this forum about a ZB26 or ZB30 in probably .303 caliber?
In a publication I noticed a photograph of Indonesian soldiers (TNI) in the period 1945-1949 armed with a ZB26 (or ZB30) topped with a Bren mag. The curvature of this magazine suggests .303 British.
The accompanying soldiers are armed with Dutch Mannlicher/Hembrug rifles in (most likely) 6.5 mm R.
Did the Japanese use ZB26's in .303?
Did Indonesians modify ZB's for use of 6.5mmR or .303?
Thanks for looking into this question.
Cheers,
Emile
Hi Guys,
Got some new thinking stuff for you. Can someone tell me if these two items are original? The first one (i was told) should be a nsdap pin but i can't find anything about it (maybe a fantacy piece) notice also the number2 is slightly lower than the numbers 9 and 3. The second one is a visor eagle but from witch department? (maybe railway) and is it a original?
thanks guys.
greetings eddy
Dear Colleagues,
1. Can anyone please tell me the range of functions or duties of these two kinds of naval officers in the era of the war against fascism :
инженерно-корабельная служба - shipboard engineering service - gold hexagonal погоны trimmed black, with silver crossed axe and adjustable wrench branch insignia and stars - I assume the officers from the engine-room and ship's services (electric/water/etc.) - but what about navigation, communications, gunnery, torpedo, fire-fighting and damage-control and so on ?
инженерно-береговая служба - land-based [naval] engineering service - silver hexagonal погоны trimmed black, with gold crossed axe and adjustable wrench branch insignia and stars - I assume repair and overhaul, communications, perhaps mines and ammuntion - and what other?
2. There appears to also be another denomination of naval engineering : инженерно-техническая служба - [naval] engineering-technical service.
This one really confuses me. It appears to apply before and after the war (possibly with different meanings), but not so much during the conflict. I have seen 1952 regulations specifing a separate branch insignia - a three-bladed propeller superimposed over a toothed gear. I cannot precisely determine where the officers of the инженерно-техническая служба served, performing which functions and bearing what branch insignia(s), and in which years.
I especially wonder about the denomination used for naval officers at shipyards, weapons, munitions and equipment constructors and similar manufacturing locations.
3. The land-based components of the navy seemed to have adopted army ranks in about 1943. Example : капитан 3-го ранга --> майор. Can someone be more precise on when this change was ordered?
Thank you very much, in advance, for any assistance.
- Frayer
P.S. - A response can be in English and/or Russian (or even French) - whichever is easier for you.
my first bayonet i bought is a german feild bayonet.. it was 20 bucks on ebay and has no scabord and has been wire brusshed down and coated in chrom.. it has also been sharped to a good edge :weep:
i was thinking about getting the chrom off since its chipping pretty heavily and putting a chemical blackener on it..
i did this with a 1942 champion shot gun i own and it turnd out great.. and would realy like to do it to this bayonet since its not realy worth a hole lot of money as is..
dose anybody object to this matter?
Will / or anyone,
