WW1 Mauser 98 Rifle cleaning rod question

I have a WW1 Mauser Gewehr 98 Rifle with the cleaning rod. My question is what did they screw the cleaning rod into to clean the bore? I understand that in WW2 they used a chain with a handle, but what did they used in WW1.

Need help! Need Info Please re: 1935 combat bayonet S/185 G

Hello everyone --
I have a 1935 combat bayonet marked S/185 G on one side and marked 1494 D on the opposite side. The scabbard that it is housed in has the same numbers engraved on it as well. The bayonet & scabbard fit into its leather frog that also has numbers/letters engraved on the back but these are a bit worn out. On the frog, the only part I can definitely read is "6A"... the other preceding letters could be an "Hc" or maybe "Hr". I came upon this website as I was searching thru GOOGLE to see if I could find out any information about this WWII item that my Dad brought back with him. He was a radio operator and machine gunner in a B17F while in the U.S.A.A.F. and on April 17, 1943 his plane was shot down in Bremen, Germany. He was captured in the woods near Ottenburg, Germany and became a POW in Stalag VIIA in Mooseburg, Germany from April 17, 1943 to Oct. 12, 1943; and then a POW in Stalag XVII B in Krems, Austria from Nov. 1943 to April, 1945. Unfortunately, I did not know any of this information until my father passed away when I came across all his papers, this bayonet, and some war medals. He never spoke of the war, while I was growing up, and I was too young and naive to even ask about it. I don't know what significance this particular weapon has, whether it was his, or a german soldier's. Maybe you could let me know just how these were used and the value, if any. I thank you for your time. Take good care.

Jungdeutsche Orden (JungDO)

I am perhaps leading with my chin on this genre of very special and distinct buckle.

JungDO or the Young German Order was I think, a right wing para military organisation within the Weimar period and perhaps, the name and the emblem was inspired by the Teutonic Knights (Deutscher Orden).

Nationalistic !!!

The pseudo chivalric group was involved in nationalistic German politics and the youth organisation was sometimes called Jungdeutsche Jugend (Young German Youth) with the motto of "True German in Every Way". The Jungdo’s political wing and the Volksnationale Reichsvereinigung (Peoples National and Empire Association), merged with the German Democratic Party and parts of the Christian Social People’s Service in 1930, to become the German State Party.

The group was founded by Artur Mahraun in May 1920 in Kassel and the organisation tried to revive ideals of the pre Great War Wandervogel youth movement. The organisation was I think banned by the NSDAP in 1933.

As I say, leading with my chin on this one !!

David

Saarland 6-2-2010

Last weekend we went to the Saarland to dig on a new location, US positions on a hill with great view. There was a lot of snow (and some local people who were looking for trouble…) so we went back early. These are our results.

First we found a .30 cal belt with some canvas remains.

Second signal was something larger, our harts jumped when we saw the first glims of the edge.

It has a shrapnell hole underneath the blob on the front side. It is in excellent condition.

Furthermore, from the same hole came an empty M1 carbine magazine.

Sadly we got disturbed by some local town folks who were just out for some action in there small boring village and they had called the police. After some explaning and a good conversation we could leave freely. But fearing the farmers would take matters in there own hands if we would continue, we went back home just in case.

Need help! Hj dagger, too good to be true?

Could this actually be original? The seller claims it is but it sure looks too good to me. What do you think?

Need help! Identify this M35/40

Hello everybody!

Could you please help me identify this helmet. I really don´t know much at all about them myself. What model is it and does it seem original? Decal? Value? The liner seems even to my untrained eye to be a newer replacement.
