My Argentinian collection

Hi Guys,
There seems to be a current interest in Argentinian M1's,

So I thought i would show you mine, one is a veteran bring back ( the airborne one, which i bought off a mate in work, former R.M. medic) the other I won on auction.

The non airborne M1 has a firestone liner, which was an obvious US reject due to it's mishape around the outside edge of the rim.

The Airborne model is of local manafacturer, as it's not marked in any way, and hopefully as the picture of the liner show's it's made from a similiar but different material from US liners.

A good way to ID these shells as local manufacture, is that they have spot weld mark's around the inside rim ( see the pictures from both lids), they are rear seam and do not have heat stamp's. Also the head band's are generally a green leather, the colour of the Argentinians leather equpment, unfortunetely i do not have covers for these lid's. There are US made lid's from this war, but they are extremely rare, so if you've got one your a lucky collector!!

The one I bought at Auction was sold as a US M1, it wasn't until much later, that i was able to successfully ID this lid.

These lid's are beginning to appear more on the market now and could be fairly popular to collectors........Get 'em while you can, as most were thrown overboard ship as the squaddies weren't allowed to keep em!!

I went into my local militaria dealers in Plymouth, a few year's back trying to source some more of these lid's, only to be told if i had visited in the late 80's they were practically giving them away....Gutted...:(
Makes me think someone must have smuggled a load in...

Enjoy.........personally i would like to see more of these lids shown.

8th Air Force finds. Winter 09/10 part 1

Well over the winter iv been over to my dump a couple of times and i think the cold fingers and toes have been worth it.:D
Firstly 3 machete's which all came from the same place and one i got from ebay to show what they looked like when new.
Next are some canteen mugs i found. As you can see i have cleaned two of them up and they look really good. I just couldnt stop myself makeing a coffee in one of them:rolleyes:
Next is a really nice 50cal gun sight. Im so happy to have this!! Now i just need to dig up the mg:D
Next is a life boat knife. I cleaned one side and left the other and it comes up like new.
Next is part of a leather flight helmet which is now soaking in baby oil to bring it back to life and stop it drying out. (THATS A TOP TIP IF YOU FIND ANY LEATHER) Then a nice little razer made bye GEM.
A wing tip light. It has left written on it.
Some instrument lights red and orange.
A oil drum spanner (think thats what you would call it) Im fairly sure it was for opening a oil drum. And a tiny set of spanners.
Next is a tiny little hammer head its made of brass. Any idear what it would have been used for?????????
And lastly a lighter.
Hope you enjoy looking as much as i enjoyed finding. Will be back soon with some more including a stack of plexi glass and some more dog tags.cool militaria

marking on canadian items

Hello !
Not long ago i won this duffel bag and there is some marking on the bag .It seams to be hand painted and i was wondering if it was the normal way of doing it and if they had to have those marking on the item.
I have been told that the owner (canadian soldier) landed in sicily got wounded there and send back to England . So is the marking related to the regiment he was in ? and the Exit / 2.0 means ?
thanks for the help in advance

Frenchy
