Irvin flying jacket

Hello,
I've recently had my WW2 bomber command jacket re stitched and have now finished it's third coat of neatsfoot oil. The jacket was rescued from a friend who had been using it as a liner for his dogs basket! It cost me a new blanket for the dog. All the stitching was rotted so I had that replaced by Martin Ashworth, who made an excellent job of it. I then proceeded with feeding the dried leather and whilst the last coat was drying this afternoon I noticed two letters painted in faded military yellow on the back. They seem to read HG. Will try and attach a couple of picks. You will have to look closely to see them so one pic has a line around the letters. Anyone have any ideas?
Cheers,
navyman

6x 30 german binoculars

Hello Guys,

I just wanted to share this beauty with you, 6 x 30 german binos with fantastic patina .I believe they belonged to an infantry man because the paint is worn out in only one side ( he had to hold the weapon with the other one???) .Focus is crystal clear, case has no markings.

D-Day….. My Musical Tribute!

Hi all,

I want to share with you something a little different.

Some of you may know from the 'Other Hobbies' thread, that I'm also a guitarist, and was previously in a number of bands. Well in 2004, two days before the 60th aniversary of the Normandy landings, I wrote and recorded a tribute song to mark the commemorations.

Somehow, the only copy of the track was lost for years, and despite looking everywhere, I just couldn't find it!!! That was until a few months ago!! I was helping my sister clear her loft, and I found the disc in a carrier bag! :)

I decided to create a video, and upload it onto You Tube! I done everything on the track, vocals, backing vocals, and guitar. The drums were from a drum machine! I'm very proud of it, and hope you guys enjoy it too! cool militaria

Here's the link to the video...

RB (Reichsbetreiber) Manufacturers Codes ?

Hello,
I've just picked up a Tornister backpack with the RB code (manufacturers code) 0/0212/0005 - I was wondering if anyone has any information, in particular of this number or a list of the different manufacturers codes.
Regards

Anyone coming to Reichertshoffen messe in mid of September?

I will be there, quite a good small but good and interesting show, first day is car boot sell too, a lot of collectors and very small dealers selling stuff there.

is there a site for this?

i hope someone can help me. To find who was presented with medals after WW2 in the british army or navy etc, how would you find out? if you have a name is there somewhere like a database to find such information out?

This week ends finds by Hamburg

Guys,

A mixed bag as usual!:) Went to one of those giant fleemarkets near Hamburg. It was very hot and very big. Still managed a few bits though. Need some thoughts on the leather jacket. It is very similar in cut and style to the U-Boat jacket? Problem is it is dark brown not black or grey.

So on with the list and as ever if better pics required jast ask as I'm getting better at it.

1. Some first war books with good pics.

2. Small but nice hunting knife made in Solingen.

3. Some Kriegsmarine diggers in stainless steel.

4. Desk tidy with inscription.

5. Kriegsmarine See Sack dated 1941.

6. Another first aid book, seems I can't go anywhere without getting one.

7. A kennkarte with a green stripe?

8. A Foriegners Work book for a Dutchman.

9. An unusual HJ booklet about Germans close to the borders (Danzig etc).

To be continued!:)

8th Air Force relics

Inspired by some of the posts by members of this site ... I've decided its time to post a few pictures of the finds that I've made over the past few years ...

The pictures below show some of the items I've recovered from airfields & crash sites. Favourite items include the G-1 oxygen cylinder with original yellow paint and stencilling and the .50 cal wooden shipping crate that I 'liberated' from a barn in the early 1980s (when it was still possible to find such things!).

Amongst the selection of airfield bits & pieces you will see a rather nice silver half dollar and a sterling silver lieutenant's bar made by Firmin of London. There is also a .50 cal cartridge cut down and made into a lighter ...

I've also included some pics of some instrument faces from the crash site of one of the 34th Bomb Group B-24s that was shot down on the 7th June ... one of the few American aircraft destroyed by German night fighters over the UK. Picture are an oil pressure, gauge, rate of climb indicator, an RPM gauge and whats left of an airspeed indicator ...

Another site I've been visiting a lot is the site of a P-51 / P-47 collision. I've got lots of items from this incident ... including most of the canopy bar from the Mustang .... The pictures here show parts of both rudder pedals ... bearing fragments of the wording 'Depress to park'. Also included is a picture of what I regard to be an incredible find ... a fragment of the top of the control panel from the Mustang ... with the radio call plate still attached ....

All the best,
Gremlin
