The Erkennungsmarke dedicated to the Latvian Legion
This is a nice and scarce SS Gen Seiffardt dog tag. 13 Kp. Owner number 39
Unfortunately no any archives entry about that tag.
The font is widely prevalenced in other SS dog tags too. Known tags with exact that font is Latvian Estonian tags made after 1943 year.
about the only real one i have
This is the comparision between the original one and a copy.
Someone tried to reproduce the exact font which is nearly close to Westland, but more closer to Estnische SS Frw Brig, font looks like 1941- 42 period, and seen in a different that period SS dogtags. Each of the matrix was a handmade, due of that all the different units made Id disks, has a minor differences in measurement, but the same by type. This one fake, has no W letter, due of the fakers hasnt it and make the "screwdriver type W" also the digits used on this tag looks similar to the 23 and 24 regiments Norge And Danmark style.
I own this fake from the mid 1990’s years and bought it as original. Most probably a Russian made fake
SS Pz Pi KP/ SS Pz Rgt 5
Not a easily find one, and most interesting it’s a Panzer Pionier
Other side is marked Waffen SS
Here is the SS Geb Jag Ausb u Ers Btl 7
Hi, I am posting better pics of a helmet I got from the Narva area.
I posted pics of this helmet couple weeks ago. There was a reply in the thread that the "green" color of this helmet was caused by an unprofessional cleaning with oxalic acid. I responded, and also posted more pics of the helmet, but the thread just stopped, with no more opinions of the unprofessional cleaning color change.
So I do not know know if the statement was a joke, or a final verdict on this helmet.
I hope these photos are good enough to see the colors more accurately. My opinion of this helmet, is that it has not been cleaned, and was originally a green helmet. What color green I do not know. And It may not be "mumarrassee?" green, I am not an expert on German helmet colors, but the helmet looks to be green originally.
The interior protected areas are clearly green, and at least to me, the original coat of paint. I would think the outside shell after 65+ years in the ground might look like it does now, and was not caused by improper cleaning.
What do you think? improperly cleaned, or they way the helmet came out of the ground?
Thanks. Regards, Steve
Here I will share with my first post in this forum this rare SS VT dogtag. That is a rare dogtag of the SS Sturmbann Nürnberg, later the part of Das Reich, if I'am right remember. The owner of that dog tag MIA in Estonia in 1944 year, and most probably has take the part in the rgt Danmark, unfortunately no any of archive entries about that ID was found in the German WAST.
Hi, here are a couple Japanese tropical field caps that have finally arrived. One is the stereotypical flapped style cap you always see in the movies. The construction of the 2 caps is quite interesting.
The other cap with metal IJA star I was told by the seller to be a "Traitors" cap. A Chinese that was either fighting/working for the Japanese. Either voluntarily, to keep the Japanese from getting upset (that way he would have a head to wear this cap. :D ) or involuntary
This may be true, not sure, but maybe this style is also to distinguish themselves from regular troops. I am a gun and weapon collector for many years, and have not done too much research on head wear and uniforms etc, so if someone has more info, or another cap like this, I would like to know more, and appreciate info anybody has about this "traitors" style hat.
These are supposed to be ground dug caps, like the Type 90 Japanese helmet I posted pics of a few weeks back. ( A helmet that still has remnants of the tropical cloth cover and the liner). The seller said he washed these caps because they were dirty and smelled!! :o(
I usually Do Not touch things, and especially wash them, but I had no say in this one. I did tell him I hope he did not use fabric softener, or anything that smelled like flowers. :D Luckily he did a fair job, and no smelly stuff. It appears the red color might have bled a little from the liner or filler material. It still looks OK for the price. Free.
If these are "ground dug" relic caps, they must have been in a box or container of some type. The flaps of the the one cap were steamed by me a bit to lay right. I also added the tie strings to both caps with an appropriate looking string (shoe) that I aged a little.
I will be posting pics of the grouping of all the items I have purchased from my new friend in China ;) Grenades, mines, Helmet, Dog tags etc. I am also trying to get all the info from exactly where all these items were found.
I hope you enjoy looking at the pics of these very unusual ground finds.
Regards, Steve
How about some Pilots survival machetes. These came with
either a folding blade or fixed blade.
