New Book On SS Cloth Headgear

Today, I received my copy of "The Collector's Guiede To The Distinctive Headgear Of The Allgemeine and Waffen-SS" by the late Mike Beaver and completed by his friend, Bill Shea. I would highly recommend the book to any collector of SS material in general or specifically headgear. It is a typical Schiffer publication. Many beautiful original caps from the kepi to the field caps, all in color. Accompanying are numerous period photographs of standard and oddities in wear. The book is $100.00 + $10.00 shipping in the USA. It is available from Bill Shea at The Ruptured Duck

Does this skull have a chance…

of being real? I bought this M43 cap about 30 years ago to use for re-enacting. The guy I bought it from had a whole box of them that he brought back from Germany. He said the cap was a repro made with original cloth & buttons and the insignia was real.
I just never really worried about it. I paid $35 for the cap and at the time (late 70's), original skulls weren't worth anything close to what they bring now.
I have compared it to known originals and the differences I see aren't that much different than the differences between the known originals. But my gut tells me it is fake.
I would like to know what you guys think.

Best Regards,
Mike

My Introduction: WWI Aviation Collector

Hello all,

I found this forum only minutes ago, so I decided to join. I recognize a lot of members here from other forums, so it looks like I won't be a stranger here. I have been a member and moderator of several military-related forums over the past five years, during that time my collecting interests have become very focused on WWI US and Imperial German aviation items. I would like to share a few shots of the groupings in my collection if I may.

Best regards,
Steve

This uniform and pilot ID card represents a much larger grouping to Maj. Harry L. Wingate. The Major was an overseas instructor at the 3rd. Air Park at Issoudun. He taught stunt and combat tactics at that location, spend 18 months overseas, and was tasked with dismantling the air park at the close of the war. After the war he was active n the Georgia legislature, was a Post Master, and a business owner. The grouping is heavily documented in photos, and official orders and other related printed material. The group was obtained from the Major's widow years ago.
