Hello, thanks for looking. I for the last few years have started collecting war era items and recently came across a trove of items from a local man who had passed away and his estate was up for sale.If anyone could take a look at these two pictures and maybe help with it I would greatly appreciate it, I also will be posting lots of more items i have for people expert opinions. Attached are some photos of Kolomna, Russia. Kolomna is located south east of Moscow and even though the Germans did not quite reach Kolomna, it still played an important part in the defense of Moscow.
In 1941 the southern part of Army Group Center under the command of Gen. Guderian had almost encircled the important city of Tula. The fall of Tula would have been a severe blow to the Soviet defense of Moscow, leaving the southern approach to Moscow almost wide open.
The Soviet Union began assembling troops for a counter-offensive late in 1941. The troops that counter-attacked Guderian and saved Tula were assembled in Kolomna.
In one of the monasteries we visited there was an old cemetary. One of the grave markers was wooden and reminded me of a German military marker. It was missing a board or two and I couldn't see anything written on it. It would be strange for a German grave to be there since the Germans never reached Kolomna but I took a picture of it anyway. Maybe this type of marker is common in Russia but it was the only one I remember seeing.
Best Regards,
Mike
Hi All
If anyone finds themselves stranded in Dublin with a few hours to spare and happen to be drivng so ruling pubs out (as happend to me yesterday after missing a ferry) then I strongly recommend spending a few hours at the Soldiers and Chiefs exhibition at Collins barracks in Dublin, firstly because its free!!! and secondly because it is a fascinating, large display of the Irish soldier from 1550 to the present day!
There's some great interactive displays so its great for kids (or big kids) plenty of ww1 and 2 artifacts and some great relics from the 1916 easter rising. Unfortunatley theres a strict no photography ban so I cant post you any pics, sorry!
My fave exhibit was one of the vickers (british made) german style, Irish free state army helmets, chosen to differentiate between the British army and ironicaly replaced by the tommy helmet in 1940 as it looked "too german". (post a pic on here if you have one please)
If thats not your thing the Jamesons distillery tour is close by.cool militaria
Cheers

Hello again.
i was wondering what some of you think of these items.
It is a SS visor cap badge set, So the Skull and the eagle.
These are offered in a set for a very reasonable price, and i am considering to buy a set of these.
Now is my question...real or fakes?
I personally think that the detail of both badges lokes fine, nice and crisp edges, no obvious casting marks.
I dont like the weird looking dent in the skull's chin.
Both appear to be marked proparly.
The pins i am not sure off...
Please let me know what you think, and help me get a little wiser.
Thanks
This is a NSDAP party badge/pin my Great Grandfather brought back from WWII.
Its in rough shape but I cherish it non the less :P
IM not seeing any mark other then RZM 8 on it. Could you guys help me out?
Thanks, enjoy
Zach
