Type 30 Arisaka bayonet Real or Fake

Hi, I am a collector of Japanese militaria, have been for many years now and just recently found this great, informative and fascinating forum.

Although not many Japanese pieces as far as I've seen here its still an amazing forum and am really enjoying many a thread especially the ground dug battlefield finds.

Although i have a number of peices i will post i thought i would start with a piece that i cant quite put a definitive answer to the Real or fake question.

These are all the pics i have so far but i would be more than happy to take some more detaild pics if need be.

The information i have so far -

Type 30 Arisaka bayonet. late 18 to early 1900's I would estimate around 1920s based the the style.
No arsenal stamps but the handle has the number 28 engraved on it.

What the number 28 signifies i do not know? could be a date, could be make number, could possibly have millitery meaning as i know you have to be very thorough in naming and numbering equipment so thats another possibility.

You probably cant see it in the pics(i shal take some more) but the blade is completely blunt.

The quillon and handle appear to be of the correct shape and age but the blade has always bugged me as although slightly rusted and pitted dose not appear original to me.

I know after the war allot of rifles were over stamped or had the stamp removed to be given to schools. it possible this was a dummy/practice bayonet for one of the schools and had the blade replaced. perhaps the number 28 was engraved as this was 28 out of however many bayonets they owned. But its just guessing really.

Thats why i would like to ask you all here what you think.
Thanks-
Seiebi (Darren)

Sorry about the size of the pics, in future i will either down size them or post an external link to the pics.

SS M40 Q two tone camo single decal

Here is an SS helmet I picked up earlier this year. It is a single decal Q66 M40 with a classic Q decal above alternating lightly sprayed stripes of brick red and grass green camouflage. It appears that some brick red overspray has been rubbed off of the decal shortly after application leaving paint remnants behind ontop of the Q runic decal. The helmet is lotnr 31422, marked but not dated chinstrap, and the steel linerband is stiff but lightly struck and the date is very hard to make out even on the obverse side, perhaps 1940. It is very tight. The helmet is published in SS Helmets by Hicks/Beaver on ppg 150, top. An added bonus, the initials M.F. is printed in ink inside the liner on one of the tongues.

Latest visit to Airfield barracks - More German items !

Hey guys

Well, this Friday just gone I went back to the airfield barracks BUT this time took ADE WITH ME !!!

I had to blindfold him of course so the site remained secret but he didn't mind

Apart from the fact it took me 45 minutes of wandering around the area until I re-discovered the last area I visited, and that I had to cut the visit short because I was feeling ill, AND the fact that I didn't do much detecting myself due to being ill.....it was a good day.

Ade enjoyed himself anyway and the memory of him looking all excited over finding the spout off an old enamel coffee pot will remain with me until my dying day.

Hopefully he'll show you his finds on this post as well :D :D

Here's my stuff, prior to cleaning.

And then after cleaning......

Some bits that I can't yet identify although one of the silver thingies looks like a cap off a hip flask.

A lovely 1940 Half Crown...

A couple of buckles/clips off kit

Three 303 cartridges, and M1 carbine cartridge (all dated prior to 1943) and 2 stripper clips.

A George Vi coronation badge.......what on earth was this doing there ????

A Nivea lid and a lid off a Nail polishing stone. Amazingly, when I managed to get it open, the instructions were still inside !!!

Some German pebble buttons of 3 different sizes. Also 2 German coins dated 1940..... a 1 and a 5 pfennig.

Now a ring.......when I was at the Militaria fair in Birmingham, I saw a ring very similar to this in amongst some German regimental rings and such like. It appears as though there did used to be an enamel face on the ring, long since eaten away......but could it be German ? The stamp says 'Sterling' so that doesn't help particularly.

And lastly a .50cal ammo tin lid ! What a shame it wasn't attached to the container itself AND full !!!

Anyways, that's the lot from this visit. Hope you can help identify some of the bits and like what I found.

Kwk43 Projectile Colors

Can any of you help me determine the color of the HE projectiles used in the German tanks using the KwK43 rounds? I've been told yellow and green. Seems the yellow is rare with the big 88. Are there any photos showing the original color.
Thanks in advance.

Researched Order of Glory, Third class.

Hi Guys, I have had my heart set on buying an Order of Glory now for some months. Finally today at the Birmingham Arms fair I managed to obtain one with a good wartime brass suspension and, the real bonus, one which was researched! This is my first researched Soviet award.

Here are the details from the award citation:

Lukianov, Pavel Sergeevich, Red Army Private, scout, 6th Battery, 786th Light Artillery Regiment, 46th Light Artillery Brigade, 12th Artillery Division, rocket-howitzer corps, born 1925 Ukranian, in the Red Army since 8/10/1943, drafted by Belopolsky City Military Command, Sumskaya Province.

On 7/2/1945 during an enemy counter-attack on the Northern suburbs of Lebus town, Comrade Lukianov together with the 3rd company participated in repelling the counter-attack, and in the combat destroyed 12 enemy troops.

The town of Lebus is situated in Germany on the Oder river, 10km north of Frankfurt an der Oder.

My next task will be to try and discover what German units were fighting in the counter attack described in his citation.

Cheers, Ade.

WWII German Soldier Sketch Book - 1941

Here are some photos of a German soldier's sketches which published in a book in 1941. These are just a few of them. They all appear to be from the invasion of Belgium, Holland & France.

Best Regards,
Mike
