Help needed to identify ammo crate

I would like to ask the Forum for help in identifying the original use for this possible wooden munitions crate.

Pic A shows that it is unfortunately missing its handles on each side.

Pic B reveals a brown paint applied over green.

Pic C shows that a sand coloured paint has been applied over white lettering – easily rubbed off with ones nail to reveal the probable home address of a British serviceman as shown in Pic D. This suggests that the crate was given a new use – prossibly to send home a comprehensive collection of Knights Crosses and chained SS daggers etc!

Pic E illustrates the interior.

Pic F/G/H illustrates close ups of the stuck-on paper labels in detail.

I mainly collect WW2 RAF material. I have also recently developed an interest in German anti-aircraft items. Anyone interested in a swop let me know!

Thanks in advance for any help offered. Kind regards, Malcolm.

Ostfront Medaille Makers Mark? What do you Think?

Hi, more close pics of an Ostfront medal I just received. I thought the medal was unmarked, but not so sure now.

The ring has 2 deep marks/cuts on one side, that could be a possible number 'Mis-Strike" The reason I say this, is there are No corresponding marks on the rear, like the ring would have, had it been gripped tightly with a pair of wire cutters, or similar tool.

There "are" very tiny serration lines on the rear of ring, in the exact spot where the 2 deep marks are, possibly from the part of the stamping machine that grips the small ring as it is being stamped.

It took a lot of force to make 2 marks that deep, and I wonder why no deep marks on back, just tiny serration's. It also could be a pair of jewelers pliers, cutters of some type, with a blade for cutting on one side, and serrated on other jaw of plier for grip?? I have never seen a cutter/plier tool like that, but then there are many tools I have never seen. No need really for specialized tools for a tiny metal ring.

This is just my possible theory, and explanation of the odd marks. I think think if the ring has been changed or messed with, it would have different "marks and marring"

Have any members ever seen a "possible mis-strike?" like this??

What do you think?? Is this a mis-strike, or my imagination running away with me, and just someone messed with the ring, or replaced it?

Regards, Steve

Is this SS sword real?

The guy trying to sell me it says it has no markings on the blade. The tip of the blade is broken as well. If it is real, what is a fair price? Thanks, Keith

Soviet Rank Pips? Cap Stars, LW Coin Purse/UNIQUE!!

Hi, took some pics of an interesting coin purse I just received, and my caps stars I have so far. 2 of stars are from a friend in Estonia, and also what started me looking for more of these stars all the time.
These stars are VERY tricky to collect. I feel very good about these being war time stars.

One star is quite small, and is attached to what I believe is a Luftwaffe soldats coin purse.

I am not familiar with the 2 British?? crown insignia, Or the small insignia with "RR" ?? on it.

I am also not familiar with the Soviet WW2 insignia bars, what I think are called "rank pips/bars"

What would these have signified in the Soviet Red Army?? An Officer, NCO? I see they are both slightly different shape/size.
Do you think they came from the same officer? POW's or KIA's, or?? Where do you think the German soldat got these?

What are these other insignia, if any members know???

Regards, Steve

My Cap Star Collection So Far

Hi, took some pics of my Caps stars I found so far. 2 of them are from a friend in Estonia. :D and also what started me looking for more of these stars all the time. :weep:

New Arrivals/Wound Badge/Ostfront Medaille

Hi, a couple new arrivals in the mail today. These are the first German medals I have bought, and after seeing, and handling up close, I really like these medals. Especially the Ostfront Medaille, I also collect hand grenades, so fits right in. I paid $50US each, and think they were probably a fair price, and worth it to me. Cheaper is always is better, but......... No idea what they really go for

I understand the wound badge is the equal to our Purple Heart medal? I have my Uncles named Purple Heart/case given to him posthumously about 1949, when they finally found the plane & crew. Having a German equivalent of the PH is nice to have in my collection.

I would like to find an EK2 w/ribbon, and the small dual ribbon bar to complete the group, but after reading some posts here, I see there are some VERY good fakes out there. I would like a very worn used example, and will proceed Carefully! :D

The wound badge is maker marked "88", like the flak guns cool militaria and from what I can find out, that is Werner Redo, Sarrlautern.
Is this correct??? If so, they did good work, it is very nicely detailed.

What years were these medals made in approx?? Does anyone know??

Enjoy the pics Regards, Steve
