Shoulder boards on leather greatcoats

Hi

Were officers and officials required to wear shoulder rank insignia on their leather greatcoats or was it personal choice?

Many thanks

WWII Russian Trench Periscope

Here are some pictures of my Russian trench periscope. It's hard to tell from the photos (my digital camera does not work too well up close) but it is dated 1941.
I just wanted to know if the case is WWII or post-war.

Thanks,
Mike

M42 No Decal Help

I found this one for $375. Here is the sellers description:

"This one has defiantly been there, and has put some time. The exterior of the helmet has most of the paint intact with just a little bit missing from the top. The chinstrap is there, but has broken away on the side. There is a maker mark on the tip of the strap. Over all a nice combat veteran that has the been there look."

Is it strange that the chinstrap is dated 1940?, or is that because they had extras in supply?

I am assuming its original.

Sling/strap harware for MG34/MG42

Hello, I`m thinking of making my own slings for MG34/42 and carrying straps the Lafette(tripod)34/42. What I need is original steel hardware for these slings and I know that these are sometimes found under ground in Russia and other "Eastern front" countries. I only need the hardware and not the complete leather sling

I would be very interested in these if someone has any for sale!

Picture of the hardware found on the MG34/MG42 sling:

Picture of some Lafette 34/42 carrying straps:

Any help would be much appreciated!!
