I have only just found this excellent website and have been thinking about getting a metal detector for a while as i have a B-24airfield on my door step, roman villa's within walking distance and lots of history in general all round me
but have never touched a metal detector in my life so i need some advice and help
i have about £150-200 what would be my best choice remembering i have never held a metal detector before
Any suggestions or advice would be excellent

iv had this nearly thirty years,i was told it was more than likely picked up from the former usaaf base that we now farm on, some time after the war. is the paint possibly applied by a bored airmen/ground crew or does this pattern have some meaning, or most likely the doodling of a youngster...

I have a stupid question that will probably easily be answered and that is I have a load of paperwork which i just bought, and in amongst it all is a cert for the KVK. That looks like it has been signed by the General Fieldmarshall of the 12 Army Wilhelm List would this be his signature? Its penned and the certificate is real as they come and interestingly it is issued for Kephisia in may 41 which I believe is the Kreta campaign ? So would the big boss of 12th Army sign a piddly little KVK document?

I'm not too up on this paperwok, takes too long to research it then some one buys it in 2 seconds!

And yes Phil, I have an SS something in amongst it all:D
