Colorised Photos - An Art In Itself

I am honored to have a colleague in Moscow who specializes in the study of the various Commissariats and Ministries - and all things related - of Soviet State Security and Internal Affairs. He possesses a gift for colorising B&W photos.

Here are a few examples of his work that I find especially intriguing:

NKVD State Security - Circa late 1930X. Original photo is part of my personal collection.

Kriegsmarine dagger with plain blade

Hi Guys, here is another dagger from my collection.

This is an earlier issue dagger which has been updated with the new 1938 pattern pommel with eagle and swastika design. The blade is harder to find plain type, unmarked apart from the makers mark of "PDL" for Luneschloss. Most Navy daggers have engraved blades. The grip is a really nice dark orange colour. The scabbard has the reef knot style bands, again not so often found.

I expect this dagger was worn for some time before the new regulations came into force and the eagle pommel as added to bring it up to date.

Cheers, Ade.

Russian Uniform – Identification and Age?

Please help me identify this Russian military uniform. The person in the picture is of a family member but I have no other details. The first letter on the shoulder boards is visible and appears to be a Russian B. There are 3 stripes above. Any facts will be appreciated. I would like to know the branch of service, rank, approximate time in history, and any other interesting facts. Thank you.

Nick

Middelkerke bezet

To all

This afternoon I was walking in a bookshop and I was pleasantly surprised to find a book about my home town during the occupation. All the pictures that are in it are made by Bruno Pischetsrieder. He was a German Wehrmacht soldier that was stationed in Middelkerke from july 1940 till may 1942, he was then transferd to the eastern front. The book gives a nice view of how the life of a Wehrmacht soldier looked like.

Bruno Pischetsrieder was enlisted in the Wehrmacht during the summer of 1939. He took part in the invasion of Poland that same year. In 1940 he also took part in the invasion of the low countries and France. In July 1940 he ended up in Middelkerke. He would stay there till may 1942. During this time he visited Berlin, Paris, Warshaw, Bruges, Ostend, ... Most of the time was spend on sports, exercises and drawing military maps. After may 1942 he was transferd to the east and took part in the battle of the Krim. He eventually won the Krimshield. Later he also took part in the invasion of the caucasus and the retread that followed on the Kuban. He eventually surrenderd to the Allies in 1945 after six years of brutal war.

This was a short summary on this most amazing man. I also scanned a few pictures from the book.

Anybody here interested in the following?

He Gents, I was wondering if anybody here might be possibly interested in seeing any of the following lists:

The names, ranks and units of Ritterkreuzetrager, Close Combat Clasp in Gold Recipients, German Cross in Gold Recipients, a list detailing the 98 RKTs who recieved the CCC in Gold, as well as (in the future and after these lists are done if wanted?) a complete list for every recipient of the Pour le Merite, Medal of Honor, Victoria & George Crosses-respectively, and hopefully a complete listing of every recipient of the Hero of the Soviet Union.

If anyone is interested in thumbnail info about these men & in some cases-women-please let me know as I have and or are currently building a wealth of information on these some appx total of 60,000 +++ names. These lists will take a long time to post and will be a work in progress taking XXXX amont of time. :shok_yikes::weep::o(

Newbie here.

Hi i'm new here and will take me time to get rolling and learn this great site. I was invited here by a good friend of mine/gentleman--Paul.E.

Once I get started, I would like to show a few original German pics I have in the collection-for gents to enjoy. However, this will take some weeks to accomplish and will have to be with the help of my friend to get these where you guys can see them.

Cheers H-B-1944
