Hi all,
Thanks for all the positive comments on "Recent Normandy Finds 1", much appreciated.
Attached are some pics of some kind of rocket that was found buried about 2 feet deep in the side of a Machine Gun Nest in the sand dunes of Juno Beach. I have ruled out a rocket from a Typhoon as the back end of the shell is completely different. So what on earth is it from? Does anyone have any photos or illustrations of these as I have no idea what they looked like.
The flared "rocket nozzle" was found just behind the main shell head and having extracted that and rechecking the hole we found that the head was buried much deeper. The part with lots of holes in it was inside the rocket head.
Over to you folks hopefully you can shed some light on it!
This is my first post and I am by no means a collector of WWII relics. But finding a 48 star flag flown during WWII in an antique store started me and my husband to looking for similar finds.
This weekend we came across what we knew was a Soviet issued wool coat in mint condition. Clearly it was issued but probably never worn. We figured it was Cold War era. After some internet research, it seems that it is possibly a M41 greatcoat. I only have a couple good cellphone pics for now, but I'll post some good detailed ones tomorrow.
We mostly bought it for its "unique" value and that it also fits my husband as if it were tailored to him. ow we are wondering what what we may have bought.
Husband has on a hooded sweatshirt underneath so don't confuse the collar with that. It has the pockets that are angled and don't have flaps. Has the three buttons on the split at the bottom back. Inside there is a nearly clear label I'll post tomorrow. The issue tag is also still on the bottom. It closes in the front with eye and hook. Any opinion on it would be great.
Here's some pics of a nice pistol a friend gave me last year. It dates back from 1914 and was made in Spain for the French army at the beginning of the great war. There were many factories in Spain who produced the Ruby pistol, whitch was in fact a simply copy of a Browning pistol, but simplified as the Ruby had no grip-safety. This is a reasonable good quality one, but there are some examples known from other manufactures whitch were not of very good workmanship.
We fired two boxes of 7.65 's with it before I cleaned and oiled it, and it went into my collection.
As there seem to be some rely good experts on this forum, I would like your oppinion on this item.
It is a relic SS Erkennungsmarke what was found in Germany some years ago, in the Hurtgenwald.
Its reads; 3.SS.PZ.GREN.RGT.1 875 LSSAH and bloodgroup A
I showed it to some people, one a collector and dealer of TR items, and he confirmed it was an original, an other said it was a fake because of the way the SS runes are stamped. The size is correct, and it has some wear to the two wholes.
It seems a bit strange to me that somebody lost a replica after the war,but having said that nothing is impossible.
What about the 3? Wasn't the LSSAH the first regiment, and Das Reich the third, or doesn't it work that way?
Any information is more than welcome.
Proving that the TR had a uniform for just about every organization, this a visor cap for the Reichslotterie der NSDAP--the State Lottery organisation.
I have yet to see a pic of this cap in wear, but Lotto tickets are common.
I would assume that it would have been worn by an official in the organisation, and probably with a civilian suit and tie.
The hat is a standard DAF hat, the "workhorse" hat of the TR, that was used by groups to small to have their own hat. This is the only insignia that has ever been on the hat. A very rare hat, but one that is not exactly in demand, nor are most collectors even aware of it:
