This mantel and visor cap were purchased privately in Austria back in the 1980's. Also purchased at the same time was an identical visor cap, which still had the price tag attached, a tunic with the hand embroidered block letter Totenkopf title and a pair of breeches. These items still reside in a European collection while the mantel and extra visor cap were sold off.
he visor cap lacks a sweat shield and is evidently mid war era. I have noted many period photographs in which Totenkopf officers wear the Heer form of eagle on both the sleeve and the visor cap. The reason for this is unknown to me. The shoulderboard indicates the owner held the rank of Sturmfuhrer of Infantry. One must wonder if he was one of the many Totenkopf men to fall in the battle for Budapest.

Note that the scope base has been cut back at the rear to accommodate the smaller mount of the 2.5 power scope... Cal. 7.7mm Rimless.....BILL
This one just got from a friend who found it in the old Estonian attic. Note that the attached metallic scull is a kind of fashion of Estonian SS volunteers, due of it's a not first example seen in that configuration ( sometimes with Estonian made steel sculls)
The scull also underlayed with a piece of red wool, which is more interesting to me. The liner is too dirty but looks like this one id Georg Teufel made by materials used on on it and the cut.
Very interesting piece of history, IMO.
Unfotunately the moth eat all the woolen part of the cap...
Spent a morning at an old WW2 airfield here in rainy old England.
Found lots of relics, most of which are hunks of this that and the other. However, i did find a number of interesting artifacts.
To begin with.....need help identifying this thing. I found it behind a revetment at the same depth as other stuff i know is ww2 era. The double 'prong' thing inside still works and withdraws a crew thread from the inside of the narrower piece. Any ideas ??
Next is an unfired but badly damaged 50 calibre. Stamp on the base is TW 4 ( Twin Cities Ordnance Plant, Minneapolis, MN, 1944)
Then i found a 20mm casing, also badly damaged, also next to a revetment. Possible jam in the firing mechanism cleared out during repairs ? Markings are .... NESCO 1942 M21A1 20mm ( "National Enameling & Stamping Co.", Milwaukee [WI]. They manufactured 20mm Hispano rimless brass shell cases [20X110] between 1942-45 and 1951-54 using "NESCO" as a maker's mark
And lastly something i have never found before so i was rather excited. Took a bit of cleaning as it was badly corroded but i believe it is a Kidney plate off a 1000lb bomb ! Good job it wasn't attached to the bomb itself ! Trouble is, it is dated 53/54 so not from WW2 :( :( Shame
Enjoy this all blue French assembled svw P-38.. There were approximately 51,000 French manufactured svw45 P-38s with most of them Grey Parkerized and only around 100 to 200 all blue ones..French proofs are the five pointed star which indicates smokeless powder pressure test...The French unlike the Germans numbered the safety and the trigger.. This P-38has the all metal French grips...BILL
