Documentation that came with a shin gunto

Dear forum members, to begin with I am a newbie. This site is brought to my attention bij a fellow sword forum member named Bruce. Yesterday I bought a shin gunto, which had a piece of paper with it. Of course it was written down in Japanese, of which I have no knowledge at all. Are there people on this site who can help me with it. Also I dit not remove the handle yet because the Mekugi sits very thight in the handle and being a newbie, I don’t want tot damage things. Thanks in advance91.4 KB

Question Militaria Subscription Box?

Good morning fellow collectors,

You may have noticed that I’ve been out of the collecting community for a while.

That’s because I’ve been focused on my new business venture… The Toy Box! (The Toy Box)

I’m in no way promoting it on this forum but in short its a subscription box bringing nostalgic toys to customers. Customers can subscribe monthly to this service or make a one-off purchase. There’s currently three boxes; the 80s box, 90/2000s box and Girls 90/2000s box and each box contains a video game, action figure, trading cards, comic and some misc. items.

This new venture has been fairly successful; however, I was considering expanding the service to the militaria market - my true passion.

This idea is in its infancy but I was just putting it out there to see what the general response and feeling towards this idea is…

So here it is!

Theres two boxes an Imperial German (WW1/pre WW1 era) and a Third Reich (WW2/1933-45) one. A box will include 10 postcards/photographs (value - £15-20), a medal/badge (value - £15-20), x2 misc items e.g. documents, field gear, ribbon bars etc. etc. (£5-10 each). Total value will be £40 - £60.

The main selling point of this is that that contents will be worth more than the purchase price, its a nice surprise each month and adds some extra passion into collecting.

So I was thinking about pricing these boxes at £30.00 each including postage (within UK).

Items will be nicely dispatched in a custom made brown envelope or box with leaflet etc so would also make a nice gift for a special someone.

I’d love some feedback to hear what you think about it?

Thank you, Glen

Verwundetenabzeichen 1939 Schwarz (relic?)

Goodmorning guys,

Yesterday I received this Verwundetenabzeichen in schwarz. No doubts about it being authentic, but it has some corrosion on the obverse wich makes me think it could be a relic. On the reverse there is some rust. I was wondering if someone has some advice about how I can treat it to remove the rust. Or maybe I should just leave it as it is?

Thank you very much.
Regards, Rik

Kuban Shield

I’m not looking to buy this one, it’s already sold. But, I found the blackened background with rubbed bronze raised points more unusual to what I usually see with these. In the about 4 years I’ve been collecting in earnest, all the many Kuban shields I’ve seen have had a more overall bronze look, but often had the blackening in the edges of the details. I always thought that was patina, but looking at this one I’m having a bit of an ah ha moment as to why those edges may exhibit the blackening.

So, I was wondering if this one exhibits a more original finish to what all of them looked like when new, or if the blackening is simply some sort of patina as I’ve suspected up until tonight?

Thanks for the thoughts as I seek to know a little more about these little shields.
