Vospers Fire Hose Nozzle

I picked up this nozzle at the weekend as I couldn’t resist it.

The guy selling it said it came from a boat but I feel it probably came from the Vospers works in Portsmouth as the markings look more ownership than branding. The barrel seems to be dated Sept 1940 and the 1/2" nozzle looks to be dated Aug 1942.

I should think this nozzle probably saw a lot of action with Portsmouth receiving 67 air raids between July 11th 1940 and the end of May 1944. 38,000 Incendiary bombs and 1320 high explosive bombs.(Smitten City, The story of Portsmouth under the Blitz)

I cant find many wartime images of Vospers yard but here it is in 1939 with some of their early MTB’s.

WW1 medal group

An interesting set of medals to a Welsh soldier has come up on ebay. Maybe a bit pricey… but certainly a very interesting lot.

Cheers,
Steve.

Question I’m assuming post war, but not sure. Would appreciate an opinion. Thank-you.

M42 Camo sawdust paint? Real? Opinions much appreciated..

Last one , an M42 steel helmet with what could be rough camo applied…I know camos are a minefield, and difficult to suss out, and very rare… this shell is maker mark ( Indistinct) then 66 and underneath the lot number 5862 all on rear skirt. To me does not look contrived, can’t see any obvious tooling fake marks, top of helmet has wear, but not too much as most fakers go a bit over the top trying to make a helmet look really knackered but overdoing it in the process….everything looks natural….can see where wire netting has been applied? This is very subtle on some areas of helmet suggesting the wire was closer to the surface in some places and not so on other parts of helmet……or fake? Paint is green with brown as in pics..the brown overspray dilutes the green paint…where the gren paint is on its own, looks a bit stronger in colour….inside liner is a rich brown colour rather than red so I don’t think Norwegian rebuild…what do yo think? It does look a bit red in the photos but in natural light is dark brown with a hint of red Liner appears bit shrunk, leather gone a bit stiff…interior paint is slightly rusty but not too much….when you step back from the helmet it looks good but I will leave it to the experts….fake or good? Whatever, I like the helmet had it for years and years, opinions much appreciated….sorry if this is another fake if it is we shall move on quickly to prevent boring everyone.. …thank you so much..Tommy
