Unusual Jack Knife Grips

Hi all. Purchased this the other day as I had not seen a jack knife with these grips before. It is dated 1940 with a broad arrow, maker is Venture H. M. Slater and it conforms to the pattern of the standard British jack knife except no lanyard ring. It is possible that the grips were replaced post war, but the question would be why when these things would have been common enough for a cheap replacement to be acquired? Grips are synthetic (formica?) and are very well fitted. Has anyone seen one of these before? Any comments would be appreciated. Cheers.
