My Fleiger Badges.

I have a small collection which I will post here. I started collecting them back in 1971 but along the way have been caught out with fake pieces, some that I recognise and I’m sure some that I don’t. So would appreciate your input.

This is a pretty standard Rayback badge, the only mark is what appears to be a square outline on the pin near the top.

1942 published Aircraft and the Air

Gday All,
Here’s something a little different,
A 1942 British publication "Aircraft and the Air".Edited by Eric Sargent.
It was the property of an Australian AIF Private M Wallace.
This particular edition (third) has no publishing date but from the information contained in the Addenda eg delete "Ark Royal" , mention of the "Far East" and also to a lack off later war aircraft types I would put it down to around mid to late 1942.

What I like about this book is what is contained in the remark sections of the various aircraft types.I have attempted to show some good examples of these remarks in the images.I hope you can see the text. Sorry but I still have’nt worked out the image order thingy yet.

Some very interesting and misleading comments that history has proven incorrect but I can fully understand why they were published at that point in the war.
Over all condition is good to fair.
I hope you have enjoyed this little gem as I have alway’s wanted to show this to people with a similar mind set.:)
Thanks for looking.

German Flak Shrapnel? But how?

I found this big heavy chunk of metal at the exact place where a FW-190 A-3 crashed, and I keep asking myself, what on earth is this thing? It seems to heavy to be a part of the aircraft itself, and I have been told it is shrapnel, but I find that sort of odd. The plane did take a lot of ground fire, but could a big piece like this really get stuck in the plane, survive the crash landing(The plane was 100% destroyed) and stay in the plane all that time?

What is your theory? This is driving me nuts!

I’ll post dimensions tomorrow, but it is about 8mm thick and heavy.

Relic cleaning - White Vinegar

Right boys and girls, instead of occupying the RRPG dig threads with the Vinegar method, it would be best if it were a separate thread(And it deserves it).

In this thread we(If you RRPG guys want to tag along) will show you how to clean relics by using white/clear vinegar.

What you will need:

White/Clear Vinegar
A container for the vinegar
Your relic
Patience

White/Clear Vinegar:
This should be pretty easy to get a hold of, any food store should have it.
Attachment 285802

A container for the vinegar:
I have chosen an ice-cream box, which can be sealed.
Attachment 285803

The relic(s):
For this experiment I will be trying a couple of different rounds. Most of them are German 7.92, but there is one more modern and a very corroded Krag rounds.
Attachment 285804

Patience
Now it is just to wait. For this experiment, I will try for 24 hours
